Use this service from the Department for Education and Skills to find the details of your Local Education Authority. You can either type in a search, see a full list or browse alphabetically. 
  
  HERO - Funding
This part of the Higher Education and Research Opportunities in the UK website gives a very good overview of funding opportunities and sources for higher education students. 
  
  Scholarship Search UK
This site provides a freely searchable database of undergraduate scholarships offered by academic institutions, commercial organisations and charitable trusts. 
  
  Student Award Agency for Scotland
A very good site. Find out the information you need about supporting your higher education at a Scottish university, then track your application online. 
  
  Support For Learning - Money
This part of the site deals with getting financial support and managing it at all levels of post-compulsory education. A very informative site and one of the few that covers non-HE funding. 
  
Buy cookery equipment
  Cook Craft
Suppliers of hundreds of high quality cooking utensils and kitchen equipment for the serious home chef. The site looks a little chaotic but it is actually quite simple to navigate and has a number of different categories and search options. 
  
  Shop Smart - Home and Garden
This is a great place to find some good deals on products for the home and garden. Shopsmart lets you compare prices of loads of products that are available from a number of retailers around the country, ensuring that you get the best deal. 
  
  Shopsafe - Kitchen Equipment
This is the kitchen appliance area of the shop safe website. Shop safe only provides links to shops that offer safe and reliable online ordering as well as good customer service and often some reasonable prices. 
  
Buy stationery
  Euro Office
A massive range of discounted office supplies can be found here. There are categories of products covering almost everything you could ever need for your office, be it post-it notes or a massive coffee machine. Good prices and some special offers. 
  
  Stationery Store
One of the cheaper places to come for stationery online, particularly if you make a largish order. There is a delivery charge on small orders but the site has a lot of different products that are easy to find and very wide ranging. 
  
  Viking Direct
Viking Direct offer a huge range of stationery and related products at very reasonable prices. Using the site is easy and ordering is simple and quick. Their delivery time is usually stunning, with some products having actually arrived the same day! 
  
  WHSmith - Stationery
WHSmiths are an obvious shop to visit for stationery and now they have an online option too. You can find over 2 million products in this site, including a wide range of stationery items. Not always the cheapest but reliable and lots to choose from.

This is the National Union Of Students official website. From here you can find out about the activities of the NUS and find the website of any of the student unions around the country who are members of the NUS. Exclusive area for members of the NUS.

A directory of all the student unions at universities and colleges all over the UK provided by the University of East Anglia. Includes some international links. One of the most comprehensive listings and usually kept well up to date.

This is a site where you can find the contact details of any student union in the UK. It doesn’t have much more than the contact details and some relevant email addresses but it is simple to find the union you are after and works pretty fast.

This site gives all the information you will need to help you fill in your UCAS form for a place on a higher education course. You can fill in the form online, but only through an adviser. 
  
Find out about student life
  Student MAX
A site dedicated to the most important things in student life. Full of stuff to read and take part in categorised in subjects like drinking, discounts and funny stuff along with some more serious sections. Lots of content and fun to look around. 
  
  Student UK
This is one of the better student sites available. It has lots of varied content, including some amusing games, sections covering most aspects of student life and lots of good links. Doesn't cover all UK universities just yet. 
  
  The Student Club
A slightly more serious student site that has sections covering advice on a range of problems, a careers centre and information about business ideas. Also good for prospective students as it contains a section on picking the right university. 
  
  Uni Serve UK
Lots of information for current or prospective students in the UK. Contains city-by-city guides as well as lots of information in other sections such as academic advice, health and sex, accommodation and campus life. A good all round student site. 
  
  Woody's Web Watch
This is a great free resource for anyone about to go to university, covering a wide range of higher and further education issues. Contains hundreds of links to useful websites and organisations as well as plenty of well written advice. 
  
Get a TV license
  TV Licensing
This is the site of the ever popular TV licensing agency. Here you can find out all you need to know about TV licenses and ways in which to purchase them. You can even pay online. 
  
Get financial advice and information
  Student Money Net
This site has sections for students on borrowing, saving, budgeting, accommodation etc. Use the categories on the left or roll over the words at the top for drop-down menus. There’s a section for parents too 
  
  Student UK - Money
This section of the Student UK site deals with all aspects of money acquisition and management for students. It’s clear and easily accessible. 
  
Get support for special educational needs
  Ability Hub
This site gives information about assistive technology for people with a disability who find operating a computer difficult or impossible. This web site will direct you to adaptive equipment and alternative methods available for accessing computers. 
  
  DFES - Support
This part of the Department for Education and Skills site contains information about financial support for students with disabilities. 
  
  Skill
This is the website of the national bureau for students with disabilities. They promote opportunities and support for young people and adults (and their families) with any kind of disability in post-16 education, training and employment across the UK. 
  
Organise transport
  Public Transport Information
The BEST and most comprehensive public transport website in Britain. It covers rail, bus, air, coach, ferry, metro and tram travel in the UK and from here to Europe. It contains ticket information, timetables and passenger facility information. Excellent. 
  
  Railtrack
The official Railtrack site allows you to access train time information for journeys all over the UK. Despite the problems that Railtrack have had recently, the information on the website remains accurate and easy to find. A very useful site. 
  
  The Trainline
The Trainline is a good place to book rail travel all over the country. You can plan any journey and book it there and then. You have to register for use of the site but this is an easy process and well worth it for the service they offer. 
  
Purchase books

This site offers a free service to allow you to compare the prices of books, DVDs, Videos and music, including the postage charge. A hugely useful way of finding out if you are getting the best deal. 
  
  ABE Books
This highly recommended site is a fantastic place to find second hand, rare and out of print books from thousands of dealers all over the world. An excellent place to buy books. 
  
  Amazon
Amazon has now become more than just a cheap online book dealer, it now sells a huge range pf products and is generally reliable and quick to deliver. One of the best shops for sheer choice but not always the best for price. Always worth a look. 
  
  Book Brain
This site provides a comparison of prices of books from a wide range of online bookshops, so you are likely to get a bargain every time you buy. If you visit any of these dealers through one of the links provided, a percentage of sales goes to charity.

An interactive guide to universities in the UK. A good place to find statistics and compare a range of establishments. Find out which ones are rated as the best in specific subjects and see the information that is most important to you.

From this page you can find a university prospectus online to help you fill in the relevant details of your UCAS form and help you make a decision about which universities to apply to. 
  
  PUSH
One of the best independent guides to universities in the UK. Whilst the site itself doesn't provide a mass of information, you can buy the book here, which is very comprehensive, providing all you need to know, right down to the price of a pint of beer. 
  
  Unofficial Guides
Guides to universities in the UK written for students by students. This is a good way to get honest information form people who have actually experienced life at any particular university. Also contains some good student related links. 
  
Research a particular town
  UK Online - Local Services
Use this amazing site to find your local citizens advice bureau, job centre, health services, passport agency, post office, schools, social security office, tax offices and much more local information. A brilliant resource. 
  
  Up my street
By simply entering your postcode, you will be given an up to date guide to some very detailed information about your local neighbourhood. Includes property prices, local services, local government, childcare, employment and much more besides.
