HEAS is a national home education charity based in the UK. It provides advice and practical support for families who wish to educate their children at home as an alternative to sending them to school. Full of links to useful resources and organisations.

  London Colleges
This is the website of the Association of Colleges, London. It’s a lively and accessible site that aims to give lots of information to encourage Londoners to carry on learning. You can search for courses or colleges. 
  
  School Search
Speedy access to information to about schools throughout the UK. You can quickly and easily get an overview of how each school stands in the league tables, and get their Ofsted report. 
  
  Schoolsnet - School Guide
This guide to UK schools offers you the chance to find out about any of the schools in the UK, including details of OFSTED reports, exam results and access to each of the schools websites. Particularly useful for finding the best schools in an area. 
  
  UCAS - Institutions
This is part of the UCAS website. It is an excellent, up to date page listing all the higher education and further education colleges in the UK. You can find colleges and their websites through the map or the alphabetical list.

Learn is an excellent eduactional resource and this is their directory of exam boards operating in the UK. There is a description of the services that each one offers and clicking on one will obviously take you to their website. 
  
  Teacher Net - Examining Bodies
This is a page that provides links to all the major examining boards the exist in the UK. Click on a link to go straight to the website. Dead simple but very useful.

Use this service from the Department for Education and Skills to find the details of your Local Education Authority. You can either type in a search, see a full list or browse alphabetically.

Local councils are responsible for most facilities and services in your area. Use this excellent site to visit the website of your local council and find out about all the services that they offer or to contact a local council member or committee.

This is a really good page that gives details of the best places to find educational resources on the web. There are so many educational sites out there that this site can help you to save loads of time and effort when trying to root out information. 
  
  Free Range Education
This site is a good resource for anyone considering educating their child at home. There's loads of information about the way home education works and a massive amount of links to useful resources in a wide range of subject areas. 
  
  Home Education
This is a site put together by a family who have educated their children at home. It is a good source of information about home education and contains a lot of well organised links to places where you can find useful teaching resources. 
  
  National Grid for Learning
This is a government sponsored site that provides a network of selected links to web sites that offer high quality content and information. It does provide links to some excellent sites but there may not be quite as many as you would think. 
  
  Schoolhouse - Resources
This is a site packed full of useful information and resources aimed primarily at anyone wishing to teach their children at home. However, it can also be of great use to school students and parents who want to help their children with schoolwork. 
  
  Teacher Net - Teaching and Learning
A gateway to some of the very best teaching resources available on the web. There are hundreds of lesson plans available as well as links to organisations such as museums and libraries to enable you to the best use of local facilities. An excellent site.

This is the comprehensive, definitive guide to the national curriculum and contains resources for all of the subjects and full versions of the national curriculum requirements for each one. Also has other sections containing advice about related issues. 
  
Go to a library
  British Libraries Online
This site offers a list of all the online public libraries in the UK with links to each of them. It also includes information about other libraries, OPACs and national libraries. An excellent research resource. 
  
  The Internet Public Library
The Internet Public Library is an excellent resource. It is one of the first libraries for the internet community and is intended to discover the best ways for librarians to contribute to the web. There is a huge amount of information accessible here. 
  
  UK Higher Education Libraries
This site contains links to all of the university and research libraries in the UK, listed alphabetically. Most of these have searchable catalogues and will be extremely helpful in finding the source you need. 
  
Know your children's rights
  Advisory Centre for Education
The ACE is an organisation that offers advice and information to parents on a number of state education issues such as exclusion, bullying, special educational needs and school admission appeals. A very valuable resource. 
  
  ARCH
This is a non profit making organisation that is dedicated to promoting the child's rights to have their views on education heard under the UN convention on the rights of the child. Contains information about education and some good links. 
  
  Children's Express - Children's Rights
This is an archive of stories written by young people about various issues surrounding children's rights. They provide a different perspective on a number of issues and provide an opportunity to let children have their say on this most relevant of topics. 
  
  Children's Legal Centre
An organisation funded by the government that exists to provide a free and confidential legal advice and information service covering all aspects of law and policy affecting children and young people. 
  
  Right Online
This is an excellent section of the Save the Children website that clearly details what rights children (anyone under 18) have according to the United Nations convention on the rights of the child. Informative, straightforward and easy to understand. 
  
Purchase books and study guides

This site offers a free service to allow you to compare the prices of books, DVDs, Videos and music, including the postage charge. A hugely useful way of finding out if you are getting the best deal. 
  
  ABE Books
This highly recommended site is a fantastic place to find second hand, rare and out of print books from thousands of dealers all over the world. An excellent place to buy books. 
  
  Book Brain
This site provides a comparison of prices of books from a wide range of online bookshops, so you are likely to get a bargain every time you buy. If you visit any of these dealers through one of the links provided, a percentage of sales goes to charity. 
  
  CGP Books
CGP produce an extensive range of good quality revision texts for all Key Stages + GCSE and A Levels. You can order online. 
  
  Oxford University Press – Education
This site takes you straight to good quality educational books under the headings of different age groups and key stages, as far as further education. There is also a section for international education.
