This is the largest of Britain's online directory services. Once you have registered, you can access address and phone number information about literally millions of businesses and individuals based on name or location information. A very useful site. 
  
  BT - International Codes
This is a simple and easy to use guide to the worlds dialing codes. Simply select a country and you will be given the international code, a list of area codes and relevant information about the country and occasionally even the type of ring to expect. 
  
  Directory Enquiries
Still one of the most comprehensive ways to find phone number and address information for someone in the UK. Searches are easy and free and you can add successful searches to your own personal online address book. A very useful service. 
  
  Teldir
This site provides links to telephone directory sites from all over the world. Each directory is briefly reviewed, describing the language used and what is covered in each case. A useful portal that can help you track down numbers all over the globe. 
  
  The Post Office
The official site of the post office can be a little slow to load but once its all there, this is a useful and informative site. It includes the ability to find your nearest post office to within one mile and get postcodes for UK addresses.

This is a really quick way to find a UK area code based on the name of a town, or the name of a town based on a dialing code. Searches are quick and effective and the results are comprehensive and well laid out, making this a fantastic little site.

A fantastic site for obtaining a map based on address information. Simply type in the details of the address and press go. The site will then generate a map pinpointing the exact location. This map can be emailed to someone or printed for reference. 
  
  Multimap
This mapping website allows you to find a street map of anywhere in Britain based on postcode information. The maps can viewed at a number of different scales and travel directions are provided. This site also includes aerial photos and local information.

Simply enter a postcode or location and this no-frills site will quickly provide you with an accurate and clear street map of the local area. You can zoom in or out and move around the area with a click of the mouse on the screen.

  Look Up UK
This is a massive UK based resource for finding lost friends or relatives. The site contains advice about searching for people, genealogy data and lots of links to other useful resources in this area. There are also over 65,000 messages to search through. 
  
  Search Line
Search Line is a service primarily aimed at reuniting children with their birth parents. They are not a charity so searching services do cost money. However, they offer a confidential service that is conducted by an experienced individual. A useful site.

  British Libraries Online
This site offers a list of all the online public libraries in the UK with links to each of them. It also includes information about other libraries, OPACs and national libraries. An excellent research resource. 
  
  BUBL
BUBL is an amazing and little known resource. It contains selected Internet resources covering all academic subject areas. There is a truly massive amount of brilliant information that can be found here and you can either search categories or journals. 
  
  Newspaper Archives
This site provides links to hundreds of online newspaper archives all over the world. Although primarily focused on the US media, there is a page of worldwide archives, including several useful links to British sites. 
  
  The British Library
The website of the UK's national library. It allows you to search for a huge variety of information in over 10 million documents as well as offering a wide range of extremely useful services. Ignore the annoying pop up window, this is a great site. 
  
  The Internet Public Library
The Internet Public Library is an excellent resource. It is one of the first libraries for the internet community and is intended to discover the best ways for librarians to contribute to the web. There is a huge amount of information accessible here. 
  
  UK Higher Education Libraries
This site contains links to all of the university and research libraries in the UK, listed alphabetically. Most of these have searchable catalogues and will be extremely helpful in finding the source you need. 
  
Look at census information
  1901 Census
This is the site for the recently released 1901 census in the UK. Unfortunately, due to high initial demand it is temporarily closed for updates to the system. Keep an eye out though because it will be returning soon.

This is the national UK statistics website, which contains information about the recent censusand access to previos census data; births, deaths and marriages; and a wealth of UK information.

The Public Record Office is the national archive of the United Kingdom. It covers an unbroken period from the 11th century to the present day and the records are available to whoever wishes to view them. This is a fantastic resource.

Interflora is one of the best known international florists in the world. This site has a good selection of floral arrangements available to order online and deliver the next day. You can even arrange to be emailed a reminder on special occasions.

This is a simple and easy to use way of finding a number of florists in your local area. You can search by place name or postcode information and you will be given contact details as well as an email address and link to a website if one exists.
