On this you can find the address and phone number of your nearest doctors surgery or heath centre. There are different sections for various regions of the country and results are based on your postcode. A fairly comprehensive directory and very useful. 
  
  Local Hospital
Don’t be put off by the world map on the front page of this site. It currently only has listings for the UK. Simply type in the name of the your nearest sizeable town and you will be given a list of the contact details of all your local hospitals. 
  
  Net Doctor - Health Services
This is a comprehensive directory of UK hospitals, support groups and health authorities. It is simple to use and will find health facilities in your local area. A very useful and well put together resource. 
  
  NHS Local Services
This site allows you to locate your local NHS services, including GP surgeries, dental practices, opticians and walk in centres in your area. Searching is very easy and the site also contains links to the rest of the increasingly excellent NHS site. 
  
Get parenting advice
  BBC Health - Parenting
This is part of the massive BBC website. It has loads of practical information about young children and parenting, including information about illnesses, immunisations, behaviour and some good links to more in depth areas. 
  
  E-Parents
A website provided by the National Family and Parenting Institute that is a good source of parenting advice for parent of children of all ages. Lots of different sections cover a wide range of issues along with expert advice and various features. 
  
  Mums Net
Despite the name, this site is actually a very good resource for anyone who cares for young children. It has information covering topics including everything from pregnancy to teaching a child to count or read. Lots of good content and well laid out. 
  
  Parentline Plus
A respected charity organisation that offers support to anyone parenting a child in the UK, including the child's parents, step-parents, grand parents and foster parents. The site is full of well written advice and there are also details of the helpline. 
  
  UK Parents
This is a site that provides information and advice about parenting and the opportunity to talk to other parents and share experiences and friendship. It has loads of different section and plenty of expert advice from people like doctors and midwives. 
  
Learn about adoption and fostering
  Adoption Net
A good adoption website that has been designed to work fast and provide a lot of information in a simple way. There are various self explanatory sections packed with information about adoption in the UK and links to other relevant organisations and sites. 
  
  Adoption.org
This is the UK's most visited adoption website. It is a very good place to find information about all the different aspects of adoption and can be useful for prospective adoptive families, people who have been adopted or anyone with an interest. 
  
  BAAF
This is the website of the British Association of Adoption and Fostering. As well as a number of services aimed at people directly involved in adoption in the UK, it contains essential information and advice for anyone considering adoption or fostering. 
  
  DOH - Adoption
This is the adoption section of the Department of Health website. It contains up to date advice about the adoption process in England. The law varies slightly for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland but this is a very good place to start. 
  
Learn about infertility
  Electronic Infertility Network
The EIN site is a good place to get personal expert advice from a number of doctors from the UK and abroad who you can email directly form the site. There are also links to some excellent resources and up to date news and information about infertility. 
  
  IVF Infertility
A site that has been put together by infertility experts specifically for couples who are experiencing difficulty conceiving and are need of advice, information and details of the options available. 
  
  Repromed - Fertility
This section of the Repromed site contains a wealth of information about fertility issues. It includes information about donation of eggs or sperm as well as lots of resources for anyone interested in infertility treatments and reproductive medicine. 
  
Learn about pregnancy and childbirth
  Baby World
This is an online magazine site that covers a wide range of parenting issues including trying for a baby, pregnancy, childbirth and being a new parent. There are discussion forums, an ask the experts section and a useful shopping section. 
  
  Babycentre
An excellent site that is aimed at prospective parents and those with children up to 3 years old. It is full of information and advice about all of the issues surrounding parenting and you can personalise the site to find information relevant to you. 
  
  National Childbirth Trust
This site allows you to access a loads of information from the NCT about pregnancy, childbirth and a wide range of related issues. The site is easy to find your way around and the information easy to understand and digest. 
  
  Net Doctor - Pregnancy
This is a very good section of the Net Doctor site that provides a large amount of well written expert advice and information about pregnancy and childbirth. There are a lot of sections covering a huge range of relevant topics. Detailed and comprehensive. 
  
  NHS Direct - Pregnancy
Here you can choose from a number of common topics concerning common medical topics to do with pregnancy or you can search for something more specific. An excellent place to find detailed and useful medical information. 
  
  Patient.co.uk - Pregnancy
This is a directory of some selected web resources covering range of pregnancy and childbirth topics in detail. Each one has been researched and described to help you find the right information quickly. 
  
Register a birth
  UK Registration
This is the place to find information about where you need to go in order to register a birth, death or marriage in the UK. You can either pay for a full directory of local registration offices or use one of the links to local services around the country.
