This is an organisation that is concerned with providing information and support to parents, including unmarried parents, of either sex. They are mainly involved in the problems of the child maintaining contact with both parents after family breakdown. 
  
  Gingerbread
This is the website of the leading lone parent family support organisation in Britain. They offer lone parents and their children practical and emotional support, and speak out for them in the media and politics. 
  
  One Parent Families
An organisation that promotes the welfare of one parent families in Britain. They offer a free information service via their helpline as well as a range of free publications about being a lone parent. A useful resource. 
  
Get counselling
  BACP
This is the national body that accredits counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK. From the home page you can click to the database for finding a counsellor in your area. Descriptions of counsellors include any ‘specialisms.’ 
  
Get help and support
  Home Start
An organisation that offers support in the home to families experiencing stress and with a least one child under the age of 5. There are hundreds of schemes across the country and families can refer themselves. Good for getting through a difficult patch. 
  
  The Samaritans
Possibly the best known telephone helpline. Click on the words in bold on this page to find out how to ring Samaritans, how to contact and visit your local branch to talk to someone in person, how to text them and how to email. 
  
Get parenting advice
  Baby World
This is an online magazine site that covers a wide range of parenting issues including trying for a baby, pregnancy, childbirth and being a new parent. There are discussion forums, an ask the experts section and a useful shopping section. 
  
  Babycentre
An excellent site that is aimed at prospective parents and those with children up to 3 years old. It is full of information and advice about all of the issues surrounding parenting and you can personalise the site to find information relevant to you. 
  
  BBC Health - Parenting
This is part of the massive BBC website. It has loads of practical information about young children and parenting, including information about illnesses, immunisations, behaviour and some good links to more in depth areas. 
  
  E-Parents
A website provided by the National Family and Parenting Institute that is a good source of parenting advice for parent of children of all ages. Lots of different sections cover a wide range of issues along with expert advice and various features. 
  
  Families Online
A really good resource for families with children in the UK. Contains a wealth of local information for the areas it covers (mostly in London at the moment) as well as an archive of relevant news stories and useful parenting advice on a number of topics. 
  
  Mums Net
Despite the name, this site is actually a very good resource for anyone who cares for young children. It has information covering topics including everything from pregnancy to teaching a child to count or read. Lots of good content and well laid out. 
  
  Parentline Plus
A respected charity organisation that offers support to anyone parenting a child in the UK, including the child's parents, step-parents, grand parents and foster parents. The site is full of well written advice and there are also details of the helpline. 
  
  Parents Online
This is a website for parents of children of primary school age. It has a lot of very good content provided by experts and other parents and if they can’t help you with a problem there are links to some other good sites. An enjoyable site to use. 
  
  Practical Parent
A resource for parents to find tips, advice and information about all aspects of parenting. Although the site is not very nicely designed it does have some good content written by both experts and other parents. Scroll down to find all of the categories. 
  
  UK Parents
This is a site that provides information and advice about parenting and the opportunity to talk to other parents and share experiences and friendship. It has loads of different section and plenty of expert advice from people like doctors and midwives. 
  
Know your children's rights
  Children's Express - Children's Rights
This is an archive of stories written by young people about various issues surrounding children's rights. They provide a different perspective on a number of issues and provide an opportunity to let children have their say on this most relevant of topics. 
  
  Right Online
This is an excellent section of the Save the Children website that clearly details what rights children (anyone under 18) have according to the United Nations convention on the rights of the child. Informative, straightforward and easy to understand. 
  
Know your rights as a parent
  Advice Guide
Advice Guide gives you basic advice and information on your rights. It can provide you with a broad outline of where you stand and what you can do. Excellent as a first step in understanding your rights. 
  
  NACAB
This is a great website that offers a fantastic service. You can use this site to find out where you nearest citizens advice bureau is and use it to get advice about all sorts of things. There is also information about a range of related issues. 
  
Organise childcare
  Best Bear
A brilliant guide to the best childcare agencies in the UK. Based on independent survey information, this site can help you find a reputable agency in your area. Also includes a range of information about childcare issues such as finance and au pairs. 
  
  Childcare Index
The aim of this site is to offer parents easy access to a broad spectrum of information on pre-school childcare. There is an easily searchable database of over 5,000 daycare providers all over the country and lots of useful features for parents. 
  
  Childcare Link
This site is a fantastic and comprehensive resource for anyone searching for good local childcare. You can search for childcare providers by postcode and a variety of childcare options are given. They also provide good advice about finding quality care. 
  
  Daycare Trust
The Daycare trust is the national childcare charity, promoting quality, affordable childcare for everyone. This is an informative site with lots of useful advice and information covering issues such as choosing and paying for care. A very good site. 
  
  Sitters
A site that aims to put you in touch with professionally qualified and thoroughly vetted child minders in your area. They don’t yet cover the entire country but it' simple to find out if they operate in your town and if they do, it is a valuable service.
