Contact an independent watchdog
  ITC
The Independent Television Commission is responsible for the regulation of commercially funded television services in the UK. From the website you can make complaints, read past complaints and learn about the work of the ITC. 
  
  OFGEM
This is the official site of the gas and electricity industry watchdog. They are responsible for making sure that you receive a good deal and reliable service from whichever provider you are with. The site is full of useful information for consumers. 
  
  OFTEL
This is the government run telecommunications watchdog. The consumer information area of the site provides useful information about the performance of telecommunications companies and can help you to make a more educated choice about your phone supplier.  
  
  OFWAT
This is the official site of the government run watchdog in charge of over seeing the operations of the water industry. They are responsible for making sure that you receive a good service at a fair price. An informative and useful site. 
  
Get consumer advice
  ABI - Consumer Advice
The Association of British Insurers site contains a wealth of advice about insurance in a variety of areas. An excellent resource for finding out what you may need from a policy and what the insurance is likely to cover. 
  
  Consumer Gateway
This site is run by the DTI and provides online access to information and advice for consumers. There are links some of the most useful websites for practical and accurate consumer advice and information. This is a comprehensive and useful website. 
  
  NACAB
This is a great website that offers a fantastic service. You can use this site to find out where you nearest citizens advice bureau is and use it to get advice about all sorts of things. There is also information about a range of related issues. 
  
  Office of Fair Trading
The main government agency involved in consumer rights. The Office of Fair Trading is concerned with whether or not the way you were sold something is fair, not how good or bad the product is. The people to speak to if you feel unfairly treated.  
  
  Trading Standards Office
These people are responsible for making sure that, for example, what you buy isn't going to electrocute you. There are some excellent advice leaflets available here that cover a wide range of topics. Very good for knowing your rights as a consumer. 
  
  Watchdog
This is the online version of the well known BBC program Watchdog. It provides independent consumer advice on a wide range of issues and also provides the opportunity to contact the program to report any problems of your own. 
  
  Which Online
This is a good source of information about a very wide range of consumer issues. The site contains an archive of articles on a huge range of consumer issues and product testing. You now have to be member to access all of the content. 
  
Make a complaint
  Air Users Council
The Air Transport Users Council is the consumer representation arm of the Civil Aviation Authority. It provides advice, representation and information for air transport users and their website is a very useful resource. 
  
  Consumer Gateway - Complaints
This is the official government consumer website. This page tells you exactly what procedures you should follow when complaining and provides an alphabetically organised list of people that you can complain to on a range of subjects. 
  
  How To Complain
A brilliant site that provides you with all you need to write an effective complaint to pretty much anyone. There is loads of useful advice, some excellent links and even things like a complaint letter template, as well as a free complaining service. 
  
  Rail Regulator - Passengers
This is the webpage of the Rail Passengers Council, which is a part of the national Rail Regulator. They deal impartially with all of the most important rail travel issues such as safety, fares and punctuality and exist to represent passengers interests. 
  
  Train Pain
A site that helps you to make complaints about rail travel in the UK. There is a form to establish what your complaint is, which is then turned into a letter that is sent to the relevant company. In addition there are links to other useful rail resources.
