-> Main menu

Summary : icons are grouped together in different toolbars. It's up to you whether or not you drop them anywhere else on your desktop. The main menu and the context menu manage eCatch features.

Main icons. - Back to the top !

  • Displays a Document view or an image, if available.
  • Displays a List view, if available.
  • Displays an Information view, if available.
  • Starts downloading. In case you checked the dial-up modem access option (File-preferences-main menu), eCatch connects by itself to the network before it starts downloading.
  • Displays a pop-up menu which allows to abort downloads :
    • Don't start new downloads : eCatch ends up current downloads and then stops.
    • Abort all downloads : eCatch stops all current downloads.

Extra features are available in case of a dial-up modem access :

    • Hang up once eCatch ends up current downloads.
    • Hang up now.

If selected, the option "Keep on monitoring when downloads end up" (through the File-preferences-main menu) maintains eCatch vigilance : the software pays attention to any page you could add to a directory.

  • Displays the advanced search window.
  • Displays the properties window.
  • Creates a new directory.
  • Creates a new address.
  • Returns to previous selected element.
  • Next.
  • In case you select a list view, clicking that icon displays the previous element of that list, according to the way it was sorted.
  • Idem for next element. In case no list view is selected, eCatch displays next element in tree directory.
  • Jumps to the next unread document in tree directory.

Context menu. - Back to the top !

The name "Context menu" means that right-clicked menus change according to the context. Thus, options described below are never displayed simultaneously; only elements under cursor or right-clicked options determine which of all these options are available.

  • Abort this download : only visible if selected element is being downloaded.
  • Grab this link : link located under mouse cursor (equivalent to a single click).
  • Open in default browser pops up two options : either you display the captured document or the distant version. In first case, eCatch creates a temporary page inside which links are recreated; thus, your external browser is able to locate images when captured pages are browsed. In second case, eCatch provides the default browser with the corresponding URL.
  • See : allows to select which window is to be displayed.
  • Add view : opens a document, list or image view. Nothing prevents you from displaying 5 document windows and 3 list views.
  • Properties : edit the properties of currently selected elements either located in tree directory or in a list view.
  • Refresh : by selecting this option, eCatch is bound to download once again the selected document and its whole content; pages that contain form query results (pages that display the"?" symbol for GET and the"??" one for POST form postings) are refreshed only in case you select them individually, in order to avoid undesired multiple postings (on a Web board forum for instance).
  • New address : creates a new address and displays the property window.
  • New directory : a new directory cannot be created within an address.
  • Delete : deletes selected element (or the one under mouse cursor in an html view) and all its content.
  • Rename selected element.
  • Grab images from page : marks a page in order to download images.
  • Grab links from page : creates a new address for any link found on the current page.
  • Copy URL in clipboard.
  • Copy selection in clipboard.
  • Save as : saves the selected document on your hard disk to the same format than the original one; indeed, eCatch does not change anything to downloaded documents.
  • See Source : displays the document source of an html page in notepad format.

Main menu - Back to the top !

Menu fichier
  • New agent : creates a new agent.
  • Open agent, Close agent : each time you close an agent, it becomes invisible to eCatch.
  • Search twin addresses. This function lists all twin files within opened agents. Quite useful to avoid having a mess ! Watch, processing that work may be time consuming.
  • Save as saves the selected document on your hard disk to the same format than the original one; indeed, eCatch does not change anything to downloaded documents.
  • Export : exporting allows you to transfer grouped pages (or even a whole agent) on a mass storage device so that you can display pages with another browser.
  • Preferences : this option allows you to fine tune eCatch features such as default display for html pages, or connection to be used (in case it is a dial-up modem connection) when eCatch connects on its own.

  • New address : creates a new address and displays the properties window.
  • New site : just alike the new address procedure except that a wizard helps you step by step.
  • New directory : a new directory cannot be created within an address.
  • Properties : edit the properties of currently selected elements either located in tree directory or in a list view.
  • Rename selected element.
  • Delete : deletes selected element (or the one under mouse cursor in an html view) and all its content.
  • Grab links from page : creates a new address for any link found on the current page.
  • Grab images from page : marks up a page in order to capture images manually.
  • Select all : selects the whole text of a page.
  • Copy selection in clipboard.
  • Search : displays the advanced search window.

  • Connect : starts downloading. In case of a dial-up "modem access" the software connects automatically if connection is not yet effective.
  • Don't start new downloads : eCatch ends up current downloads and then stops.
  • Abort all downloads : eCatch kills all current downloads.
  • Keep on monitoring when downloads end up : once a capture is performed, eCatch pays attention to the links you click and downloads new pages in case you clicked a link.
  • Hang up once eCatch ends up current downloads : only visible in case of a dial-up "modem access". If checked, that option tells eCatch to hang up once current downloads end up.
  • Hang up now : only visible in case of a "dial-up modem access". eCatch aborts all downloads and hangs the connection up.

  • See images in tree directory : if you check that option, images contained in HTML pages can be displayed in a fictitious directory named "images". Thus, you can display them separately by selecting the image view icon. While downloads are being processed, images are displayed in tree directory and cannot be hidden.
  • Hide tree directory : allows to browse pages in a full width window.
  • See server information (advanced features) : that option displays in a narrow window, server information such as the name and version of host server and the name of the daemon command that generates a cookie (cookies are not supported yet by eCatch).
  • See source : displays the source of an htm document in notepad format.
  • Develop : tree directory is displayed under selection.
  • Envelop : the opposite action.
  • Next unread address : displays next unread document in tree directory.
  • Next processed download : displays next address being downloaded.
