	Animal Rescuers A directory of animal rescue centres across the UK. There are different categories covering various types of common pets in the UK as well as detailed listings of other rescue centres and organisations like zoos. A very useful resource.
	Animal Sanctuaries This site contains a directory of animal rescue centres and sanctuaries around the country. There are categories for different types of animal as well as listings of mixed animal centres and other related organisations.
	Cats Protection This is the website of the oldest and largest cat charity in the UK, responsible for rescuing over 75,000 cats each year. On the site you can find your nearest branch, find information about caring for cats and find out how to give a rescued cat a home.
	National Canine Defence League The NCDL have over 11,000 dogs in their care and never destroy a healthy dog. Consequently they have a massive re-housing scheme and are constantly in need of help from the public. The site is informative and has plenty of advice about owning dogs.
	PDSA The Peoples Dispensary for Sick Animals is a nationwide charity that provides free veterinary care to animals belonging to people who can’t afford private vets fees. Here you can find your local centre and find out how you can help them out.
	RSPCA The official site of the RSPCA is detailed and informative, providing lots of information about current campaigns, animal care, what you can do to help and where you can find your local branch of the RSPCA.
Find a vet
	Any UK Vet The aim of this great site is to provide a comprehensive directory of all the veterinary practices in the UK, no matter how small. In fact, the smallest one is only open for an hour a week! An easy to use directory that can help you find vets anywhere.
	Natural Animal Health Here you can find details of vets offering complementary therapies to animals as an alternative to the more common treatments. You can search regions of the country and see details of what each practice offers and well as reading about such therapies.
	RCVS Find A vet The most useful section of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons website is the 'Find a Vet' function. You can specify whether you need to find a veterinary surgeon or nurse, what animals you need treated and where you need to find one. Fantastic.
Find out about pet healthcare
	Emma The Vet A good 'ask the vet' section and forum for discussions with other pet owners. The site is well laid out and easy to find your way around and all the advice and information provided is informative and useful.
	My Pet Stop A good place to come for information and advice about your pets and their health and well-being. Although mainly concerned with dogs or cats, there are detailed sections on other common animals. Become a member and you will get access to even more.
	Pet Health Care This site claims to be one of the most comprehensive pet healthcare sites in the world and it certainly has a lot to offer anyone who owns a dog or cat. It is not the most wide ranging site but it does have lots of advice and info about these two animals.
	Pro Vet An animal health care site that contains information about specific breeds of dogs and cats as well as sections about the health and well being of a range animals and advice about topics such as insurance. Not the easiest to get around but some good info.

	Pet Planet A good shop and source of information and news about pets and related issues. Lost of different sections provide a wide variety of things to read about and buy on the site and you can often find some good bargains.
	UK Pets A big directory of pet shops and related companies and organisations such as breeders and grooming services. This is one of the biggest directories of its type in the UK and should be one of the first places you come if you want to find pet supplies.

	123-insure This site provides access to a huge variety of different types of insurance from a large number of different companies, helping you to shop around and find the best deals.
	Instant Pet Insurance This simple site provides access to two good places to go for an instant quote on insuring your pet. Simple but effective.
	Insurance Sorter Another excellent site from the creators of 'Pension Sorter'. Here you can find genuinely independent advice about all the different forms of insurance available. The first place to come if you need help, advice or just easy to understand information.
	Pet Plan This is the UK's largest pet insurer that has apparently been recommended by over 90% of UK vets. As they are pet insurance specialists, this is a good place to find the right type of cover for your animals and get advice from people who know their stuff.

	Neopets This is one of the biggest virtual pet sites on the internet. You can join millions of other people from around the world and create your own unique pet. There are also loads of games to play and people to talk to. Best of all, its completely free.
Purchase books about animals
	123 Pricecheck This site offers a free service to allow you to compare the prices of books, DVDs, Videos and music, including the postage charge. A hugely useful way of finding out if you are getting the best deal.
	Amazon Amazon has now become more than just a cheap online book dealer, it now sells a huge range pf products and is generally reliable and quick to deliver. One of the best shops for sheer choice but not always the best for price. Always worth a look.
	Book Brain This site provides a comparison of prices of books from a wide range of online bookshops, so you are likely to get a bargain every time you buy. If you visit any of these dealers through one of the links provided, a percentage of sales goes to charity.

	DEFRA - Pets This is part of the department for the environment, food and rural affairs website. It gives details of the Pet Travel Scheme which can allow you to travel with pets without the hassle of quarantine restrictions. A well laid out and informative site.
