Features of PACT DeskTOP 98
Each time I start a program, I have the feeling of loosing my desktop. I can not get to
it, and I've got quite some icons there.
And did you ever have the problem of a busy program that you were not able to minimize?
Or a topmost window you didn't want to close? Were you ever annoyed because you icon
layout was lost again?
PACT DeskTOP 98 solves those problems by providing your desktop icons in an independent
window. One click and you have your desktop icons accessible. Since DeskTOP is a real
window, it comes to the front by activating it.
Attention: Amazing Behavior! With one click it moves from the very bottom to the very
top, above all other topmost, busy, or unavailable windows. And the next click sets it
back again, while still activated!
What's more, you can shift to a hidden area to place unwanted icons, move icons per
pixel with Ctrl+arrow keys, you can define your own hotkey to activate DeskTOP or click on
the taskbar tray icon.
PACT DeskTOP 98 is a really exceptional application launcher, all icons can be arranged
covering the whole screen, you can select and move icons with the keyboard instead of the
mouse, and the icon layout can be synchronized with the desktop itself. What I like best
is, the icon layout can be saved into a sepparate file.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there an easy way to activate DeskTOP?
Sure. Since DeskTOP is always behind all other windows while not active,
you can always press Alt+Shift+Tab or Alt+Shift+Esc. Voila! However, you can specify
whatever hotkey you like!
Since DeskTOP and the real desktop look quite similar, how can I
differentiate between them?
Use a background image on the Windows desktop. During the first time I
always tried right clicking - DeskTOP would minimize, the Windows desktop displays a
context menu. Over the time, I was able to notice a difference when left-clicking: DeskTOP
comes to the front or goes backward, the Windows desktop not. However, today I always use
DeskTOP.
In the previous version it was possible to set the icon text
color. Is it still possible?
Yes, DeskTOP still looks for the registry key "TextColor" in
HKCU \ Software \ PACT Software \ DeskTOP. This is a DWORD value, the hexadizimal data
giving the red, green, and blue colors in reverse order: BBGGRR. For example 800000 is a
dark blue, 0000FF a shining red, and 808080 a noble silver.
However, PACT Software provides a new program, PACT
SetTextColor 98, that sets the desktop item text color and background color, and even
the background color to transparent!!!
I have created a new file on the desktop. How can I make it appear
in DeskTOP?
Simply press F5 or select Refresh Icon View in the tray icon menu.
