	The Magistrates Association This is a very informative site that contains loads of information about the Lay Magistracy in Britain. It includes sections covering all the aspects of being or becoming a magistrate in an easy to use site.
Become a school governor
	DfES - Governors Here you can find out who can be a school governor, what governors do and how to apply to be one yourself. School governors have responsibility for the way the school conducts its business and for maintaining good standards of education.
	Govern Your School A site by school governors for school governors. Has sections containing news and information, latest news, essential contacts, guidance, resources and some other services.
	School Governors One Stop Shop The aim of the One Stop Shop is to recruit individuals with transferable management skills to fill vacancies as governors in inner city schools. This is very informative site with all you need to know about being a governor at a school near you.

	Business Community Connections This is an organisation that exists to try and help charities obtain more help from business. The site details loads of ways that businesses can get involved and donate time, money or people to local charities and community organisations around the UK.
	Charities Direct A site that offers support in running a charity as well as a wealth of information about many of the charities operating in the UK. Search through their comprehensive directory or learn about the financial activities of specific charities.
	Charity Choice The encyclopaedia of charities in the internet. There are thousands of charities listed on this well presented site. Search in over 30 categories or use a focused search to find a specific name. You can find details of each one and a link to the website.
Contact your local council
	Tagish - Local councils directory Local councils are responsible for most facilities and services in your area. Use this excellent site to visit the website of your local council and find out about all the services that they offer or to contact a local council member or committee.
	UK Online - Local Government This is the local government section of the UK Online website. From here you can access the websites of all the district, borough and county councils in the UK. You can also find links to other relevant information and websites. A very useful site.
Find local services
	The Post Office The official site of the post office can be a little slow to load but once its all there, this is a useful and informative site. It includes the ability to find your nearest post office to within one mile and get postcodes for UK addresses.
	UK Online - Local Services Use this amazing site to find your local citizens advice bureau, job centre, health services, passport agency, post office, schools, social security office, tax offices and much more local information. A brilliant resource.
	Up my street By simply entering your postcode, you will be given an up to date guide to some very detailed information about your local neighbourhood. Includes property prices, local services, local government, childcare, employment and much more besides.
Find voluntary work
	Do It A very good place to come if you are searching for voluntary work opportunities in the UK or abroad, full or part time. Contains an easy to search directory of thousands of opportunities in a huge variety of different places and jobs.
	NCVO The National Council for Voluntary Organisations is the umbrella body for the voluntary sector in England. There are sister organisations in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The site is full of useful news and resources for voluntary organisations.
	SCVO The website of the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations. Here you can find all the latest news and information concerning the voluntary sector in Scotland. Includes loads of useful links to other relevant sites.
	Volunteering This is the website of the National Volunteering Centre, form where you can learn about and apply for a loads of different volunteering opportunities, ranging from helping someone with their shopping, to using professional skills in developing countries.
Get funding for a community project
	CCI Net This is the Corporate Community Involvement Network site that provides links to the CCI pages of hundreds of companies. Using this site you can search for companies providing the support you need for a project in your local area.
	Community Relations Council - Funding The Community Relations Council provides grant aid and advice to voluntary and community groups in support of projects which have a community relations purpose or value. Find out more here.
	DTLR - Neighbourhood This part of the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions website provides information about the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit and the work that it is undertaking to regenerate deprived areas of the country.
	Lottery Good Causes 28p of every pound spent on the lottery goes to good causes. If you have a project and wish to apply for lottery funding then this should be your first stop. It has been designed to help you find the right people to talk to. Lots of useful links.
	Sport England - Funding Here you can find details of the funding provided to sporting organisations through Sport England's lottery fund. If you have a sporting project and need funding, this may be a place to find it.
Learn about neighbourhood watch schemes
	Home Office - Neighbourhood Watch A detailed page from the Home Office that provides information about Neighbourhood Watch schemes and tells you how to set up a group in your area.
	Neighbourhood Watch This is the official site of the National Neighbourhood Watch Association in the UK. You can get all the relevant information about how to try and prevent crime as well as advice about setting up your own local schemes and a section about insurance.
Read your local paper
	News Directory The News Directory is a comprehensive listing of the world's press websites. This part of the site contains links to the websites of Britain's major nationwide newspapers. From here you can also access the regional section of the News Directory.
	NISS - Online News Sources This is a good resource that lists some of the best places to find news from all over the world and gain access to hundreds of different newspapers. There is a description of each site to help you find the right information and the list is well organised.
	Online newspapers This site allows you to search through literally thousands of online newspapers from most of the countries of the world to find the one you wish to read or contact. An excellent resource.
	Paperboy This is a colourful and easy to use site that has a vast amount of links to papers from all over the world. There are obvious links straight to the best of the UK press but you can also search for papers by name or region and get to news sites and radio.
	The Internet Public Library - Newspapers This part of the internet public library gives you access to newspapers online from virtually every country in the world. The links are organized by continent/country or in a title index.
