	Find A Lawyer A database of 'web-friendly' law firms all over the UK. You can choose to find either firms of solicitors or barristers and search according to a number of different criteria including by region, making it easier to find a law firm in your local area.
	Free Lawyer This is an online law firm that can provide legal advice from a panel of 'virtual lawyers'. However, the sites most useful facility is the 'find solicitors firm' section that allows you to search for a firm in your area specialising in a specific area.
	Lawyer Locator Using this site you can locate a law firm throughout the UK. All you need to do is enter some details about your location and the area of law you require help with and you will be given a comprehensive list of local firms with full contact details.
	The National Solicitors Network The NSN was formed to create a national panel of legal firms with the aim of providing the public with quality legal expertise at a reasonable price. They will be able to put you in touch with a local solicitor Who can provide you with the best advice.
Contact the police
	The Police This is the official UK police site from where you can access the individual websites of all the police forces in the country, including non-geographic forces such as the military police. As well as a lot of information, you can report certain crimes.
Get legal advice
	Compact Law A very good UK based legal portal that offers free advice and information about a very wide range of different situations. The site is organised into categories within which there is a wealth of relevant and up to date information. Well worth a look.
	Law on the Web This is an excellent legal portal that provides free advice and information in a very wide range of different categories. From here you can also access a number of other very good legal sites. Law on the Web is well written, comprehensive and very useful.
	Legal Advice Free As the name implies, this site offers free legal advice and links on a wide range of different topics. The advice is usually up to date and whilst it is no substitute for personal advice from a solicitor it can be a very useful guide to where you stand.
	The Community Legal Service The CLS was set up by the government in order to try and ensure that people can get information and help about their legal rights and understand how to enforce them in the right place and at the right time. A very useful site that can be of great use.
	UK Legal A legal site that offers a wide range of links to organisations, websites and individuals who can help you with most aspects of UK law. It's not the most comprehensive site as it relies somewhat on people advertising their services but still worth a look.
Get legal aid
	Legal Services Commission The LSC was set up in 1999 to replace the old legal aid board. On this site you can find advice and leaflets covering many different areas in which you may require legal assistance. You can also find links to many services online.
	Scottish Legal Aid Board These pages provide information for the public and legal profession about legal aid in Scotland. There is a lot of information aimed at both the public and the legal profession and you can find out how to go about applying for legal aid from here.
Know your rights
	Advice Guide Advice Guide gives you basic advice and information on your rights. It can provide you with a broad outline of where you stand and what you can do. Excellent as a first step in understanding your rights.
	NACAB This is a great website that offers a fantastic service. You can use this site to find out where you nearest citizens advice bureau is and use it to get advice about all sorts of things. There is also information about a range of related issues.
Read government policy and legislation
	BOPCAS The British Official Publications Current Awareness Service is the place where for a fee you can browse over 23,000 references to key British Official Publications from July 1995 onwards. This is a huge resource and is updated very regularly. Amazing.
	Central Office of Information The COI is responsible for organising the majority of the government's press and publicity. The most useful thing on their site is access to government press releases from departments agencies and other organisations, which can make interesting reading.
	The Cabinet Office This site is intended to provide fast and simple access to everything that the cabinet office publishes. It has information about the working of government, policy initiatives and the members of the cabinet as well as links to other government websites.
	UK Online This website is an interactive portal to UK Government services in your area, including links to Government department and agency websites. It also includes a feedback forum where users can express their views on Government policies.
	UKOP This is the official catalogue of UK official publications; a serious resource for those who need to know what the government says about any relevant issue. It is the most comprehensive and up-to-date source of government publications in the UK.
Read the criminal justice act
	Criminal Justice System Online This is the online gateway to the criminal justice system. You can access different sections that include all the topics covered by the criminal justice act. It is a comprehensive source of information and easy to use and understand.
	The Criminal Justice Act This is the full text version of the Criminal Justice act of 1991. It is broken down into sections to make it easier to digest and it is presented in such a way as to make printing the various section easy.

	HMSO This is the website of Her Majesty's Stationary Office, which is the place to find full text online legislation from the government of the UK and the regional assemblies and government organisations. Free for personal use with a good search facility.
	Law Resources Links This is a very comprehensive and well organised directory of links to law resources on the web. Using this site will enable you to access a massive amount of legal information from some very good sources. An excellent website.
	Lawlinks - Legal Resources Some excellent links to legal resources on the net. From here you can find the best places to access legal documents, publications and other materials. This is one of the best places to find copies of UK legislation.
