Pequeña ave marina de cola larga, parecida al Charrán Común pero un poco más delgada y con el cuello y el pico no tan largos. La cola también es más larga. Tamaño: 28-39 cm.; peso: 90-120 g. Anida en Alaska, el norte de Canadá y Eurasia, invernando en los mares de la Antártida. Rara en los mares de Puerto Rico durante sus largas migraciones, pero a veces la especie es observada forrajeando con Charranes Rosados y Charranes de Sandwich.
