Los colibríes llamados "mango" tienen el pico largo y curvo. El macho de esta especie tiene las partes ventrales color negro, verde y violeta. Los machos inmaduros y las hembras tienen una línea central negra en el vientre, con el verde de los costados más extenso que en los machos inmaduros del Mango Antillano.
