  British Decorators
This is the largest decorators association in the UK and this site can help you to locate high quality professionals in your local area. You can also read their code of practice, reasons for choosing one of their members and contact the organization. 
  
  Builders Guild
This is the official site of the Guild of Builders and Contractors. From here you can use their 'find a builder' tool to find guild members operating in your local area, along with details of the services that each of these members specialise in. 
  
  Federation of Master Builders
This is the official site of the federation of master builders. Here you can learn about the role of the federation and most usefully of all, you can use their excellent search facility to found a master builder in your local area. 
  
  Improveline
This is a useful service that can match you up with a service contractor in your local area. Every one of the contractors has been screened to ensure that they are reliable and professional and the service is free. They also have advice and tips online.

A search engine of UK architectural services. There are a lot of architects listed here along with contact details, links to websites where possible and a bit of information about each one. 
  
Get DIY advice
  DIY Doctor
This virtual DIY surgery is a good place to try and find solutions to DIY problems that have been troubling you for ages. You can email the experts and get a response within 24 hours if you are a member. A good source of some sound advice. 
  
  DIY Fix It
A lot of good stuff here about home maintenance - fixing the leaking seal around your bath for example. Like a lot of these sites there's a navigation which focus on different rooms in a home. 
  
  Home Pro
This is a very helpful site that provides expert advice and guidance about a range of DIY issues, including dealing with contractors, legal issues, a 'find a professional' service and a very good section about interior design. 
  
  Online DIY
This site is an attractively presented guide to all things DIY. You will need QuickTime to view all of their video guides to common DIY jobs but this is freely available if you do not have it. A good way to make many household jobs easier. 
  
  Quotecheckers
This company provides a valuable service that could save you hundreds of pounds in the long run. For a relatively small fee, Quotecheckers will assess any quotes you have received and talk to builders on your behalf. A good way to avoid cowboys.
