 Setting Up
IRCplus Version 1.5.x
Date of release: Wednesday, May 05 1999.
After installing the files with the Setup program and run
IRCplus for the first time, the Initial Configuration Window will appear. On this screen
you can set up the Server Name, Description and Default Administrator account. You should
change these to whatever you want. If you are installing IRCplus over an older version,
then your keycode should allready be in the Key box. If this is a first time install and
you do not have a key code, you must leave "TRIAL" in the box. This will give
you a connection limit of 10 users for an unlimited time, if you do change it then the
server will not allow connections.
If you are running Windows NT 4.0 (SERVER) You have the
option to install IRCplus as an NT Service. This will allow you to Start, Stop the server
from any permitted workstation on your Local Area NetWork, and the Administrator does not
have to be logged on to the server to start the Server. If you select this, then you will
need to start the service from the Services Applet in the Control Panel.

Once you have completed the Initial Configuration IRCplus
will load as an icon in your system tray. (Note: Windows NT users who have installed it as
a service must start it from the Services Applet in the Control Panel, Service Name =
IRCplus). Simply double click on the icon to see the Connection Status Window "as
shown below".
This screen will only be shown if you double click on the
icon in the system tray. From this control you can Start/Stop the server, see how many
people are connected in real time, and see how long the server has been running.

Now, if you wish to start setting up channels, nicknames,
and other things you can click on the Configure button. This will load the Remote Control
program. If you are not at the Server and wish to configure it, you may download the
IRCplus Admin Remote , this will allow Administrators to connect and maintain the server
wherever they are in the world. Only those with a valid Administrator account will be
allowed to log in. The Default port to connect to is : 5555.
Once you are logged on to the server via the Remote
Control, those who are at the station will notice that there is an icon in the bottom left
corner. This tells you that someone is connected to IRCplus via Remote Control. Only one
Administrator can be logged in at any one time. If you click on it then you will be able
to see who it is and their IP address.
In the Remote Control you will be able to setup Security
Restrictions, change the MOTD (Message for the day), and register Channels, and Nicknames.
Connecting to the server:
Now that you have setup your IRC Server, you want to log on
and check out what it does. Lots of people have tried connecting to their server using the
"Server Name". This will not work, the server name is only for you to see, But,
if your server name and domain name are the same and are on the IRC Server then you can of
course connect to it. If you do not have a domain name then you will have to use your IP
address.
Once you have your IP address simply open any IRC client
such as "mIRC, Pirch, MS-Chat, VIRC", or any other, and put in your IP address
and then you will be connected to the server.
