Welcome to IRCplus 1.5.x
Date of release: Wednesday, May 05 1999.

Introduction:

Welcome to the world of Internet Relay Chat Powered by IRCplus version 1.5. In this Help Manual we have included all the features of our software, including the IRCplus Command Set, Channel and User Modes, and how to set it up on your system. IRCplus is the easiest IRC server on the market today, to configure, use and continue to use. With it's state of the art Remote Administration system, IRCplus is the perfect choice for today's communications needs, you can be anywhere, at anytime of the day and still be able to maintain the IRCplus server.

What is IRC?

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) provides a way of communicating in real time with people from all over the world. IRC has been around for a long time now, in fact nearly a decade. Jarkki Oikarinen wanted to create a way for users to be able to send messages to one another in real time. He started the first Internet Relay Chat service in Finland and back then it took more then 50 servers for about the same amount of users. Since then computers have become much faster and IRC servers have been made to support many more users, now many big networks have have it over 50.000 users. Every IRC client and server follow certain rules, all these rules are in the RFC1459 document. IRCplus is fully RFC compliant.

How do I use it?

Once the server is installed and configured, anyone who has an Internet chat client, such as "mIRC, Pirch or MS-Chat" can connect to it and chat. We have not tested IRCplus with every IRC client on the internet, because there are 100's. If the IRC client is fully IRC compatible then it should have no problem connecting to IRCplus and doing everything that is available. Some clients that are designed for a specific server may not function correctly.

How do we chat?

Once the server is up and running and people are connecting, you can enter channels. These are usually represented with a hash mark in front. (e.g. #ChannelName). IRC servers can have anything from 10 to 10.000 channels, depending on what the clients do. To get the channel list simply type (/list) in the IRC command window of your client. Once you have got a list, choose the channel you think looks the most interesting and either double click (if you client supports it) or type /join #ChannelName (where channel name is the name of the channel you wish to go in to).
