Selecting the mode and objects to be updated
|
When configuring updating settings, it is important to define what objects will be updated and how updating will be performed (i.e. updating mode).
Objects to be updated are the components that will be updated: threat signatures, application modules. The threat signatures are always updated, whereas the application modules and information on network attacks are updated only if the corresponding mode is selected.
If you want to download and install updates for application modules:
select the
Update program modules checkbox in the Settings dialog box of the
Update component.
If there are currently program module updates on the update source, the program will download the updates it needs and apply them after the computer restarts. The module updates downloaded will not be installed until the computer is restarted.
If the next program update occurs before the computer is restarted and the before program module updates downloaded earlier are installed, only the threat signatures will be updated.
If you want information on new network attacks and means of blocking them to be copied to and installed on your computer,
check
Update network drivers in the settings window of the Update component.
Updating mode defines how updating is launched. You can select one of the following modes:
Auto. In this case, Active Virus Shield copies and installs updates as soon as they become available on the update servers. This mode is used by default.
If you have a dialup Internet connection and a network resource is specified as an update source, Active Virus Shield tries to launch updating each time the connection is established with that resource over after a certain amount of time has elapsed as specified in the previous update packet.
Every 1 day(s).
Updating is scheduled to start at a specified time. By default, scheduled updates will occur daily. To edit the default schedule, click the
Change... button near the mode title and make the necessary changes in the window that opens.
Manual. In this case, you launch the updating procedure manually. Active Virus Shield notifies you when updating is required:
- A pop-up message informing you that updating is required appears above the application icon in the system tray (make a link to the notice
section)
- The second indicator in the main application window informs you that the protection of your computer is out-of-date
- A recommendation that the application needs updating appears in the how-to section in the application main
window
