Text Editing Mode

In ConceptDraw, you can activate the text editing mode each time you need to edit an object's text, and then return to the mode you worked in.
If you need to work in this mode permanently, you can switch to the Edit Text tool.

Editing the Text of an Object

If you need to modify the text assigned to an object, you can activate the text editing mode in one of the following ways:

a) select the object and press F2,
b) select the object and use the Format / Edit Text command,
c) double-click on the object (if it has no hyperlink).

Then you can edit, assign or replace the text in the object.

When the whole text block is shown selected, you can replace the text completely: just start typing the new text.
If you need to edit only part of the text, press an Arrow key or click anywhere on the text to show the insertion point.

Once the editing completed, press Esc or F2 to quit the text editing mode, or just click outside the edit box.

Edit Text Tool

To work permanently in the text editing mode, click on the Edit Text button on the toolbar,
or activate this tool in the Tools / Draw / Text menu.

This tool lets you work in the editing mode as long as you need, and is particularly useful when you need to edit the text in several objects, selecting them one after another.

Switch to this tool and simply click on the object to start editing its text.
If you click on the text itself, the insertion point will be placed in the position where you clicked.
If you click elsewhere on the object, the whole text gets selected, and you can replace it completely by typing the new text.

To quit the Edit Text tool mode, switch to another mode on the toolbar - for instance, to the Select mode Select.gif (118 bytes).

Note:  For objects bearing a hyperlink of any kind (the mouse pointer turns into PressFinger.gif (97 bytes)), double-click opens that hyperlink. If you need to edit text of such an object, select it and press F2, or use the Edit Text tool .

Cutting, Copying and Pasting Text

When working with text, you may cut, copy and paste portions of text as you do in many other applications.

These text editing operations are applied to the selected portion of text. In the text editing mode, you can select a stretch of text either with the mouse, or by using the  Shift + Arrow keys.

The Copy CopyTool.gif (175 bytes) command copies the selected text onto the clipboard.

The Paste command inserts text from the clipboard in the pointer position, when the text editing mode is active. In any other mode, the program creates a new Text object and pastes the text into it.

The Cut command removes the selected text from its place and puts it on the clipboard.

These commands are also available in the Edit menu, or from the keyboard:

Ctrl + C
Ctrl + Ins
Cmd + C Copy
Ctrl + V
Shift + Ins
Cmd + V Paste
Ctrl + X
Shift + Del
Cmd + X Cut

Editing and Formatting Text in Groups

Unlike other objects, a group doesn't have text associated with it. If you select the group and start adding text to it, the text appears on the frontmost object in the group.

If you need to modify text in any object within a group, select the needed object and or press F2
(or switch to the Edit Text EditText.gif (120 bytes) tool).

In the editing mode, you can also select and format the text assigned to this object, using the formatting tools or the Text Properties dialog (Format / Text). Please see "Formatting Text" for more information.

Note that it is possible to change the display order of objects using the Send To... operations.
