The Department of Metallurgy consists of the arranged access
corridor and the exhibition room with displayed collections.
The access part contains large slides with original
drawings, engravings and photographs showing the continuous
historical evolution of metallurgy and creating the
atmosphere of environment in which the metallurgical
technology has been developing from its beginnings till the
present level.
The exhibition itself is devoted to the history of
ironmaking and shows the development of production and
processing of this most important metal of human mankind
from the very beginning until now. It includes some 150
three-dimensional exhibits and models supplemented by
a plentiful documentation. It provides a comprehensive
outline of production technology and social importance of
iron during all periods of the historical development, both
on the worldwide scale and with specific view to our
country.
The exhibition shows the current state of knowledge of
history of ironmaking while presenting the results of
scientific investigations in an accessible form.
The exhibition includes also examples of Czech decorative cast
ironwork originating mainly from the mid-19th century.
Worth particular attention are also original prehistorical
furnace, water-driven forging hammer or the model of New Jachymov iron works.
