Copying files to your portable device

Use the Copy to CD or Device feature to copy audio and video files from Media Library to your portable device or storage card.

You can also copy licensed files that you downloaded from the Internet or that you copied from CDs to your portable device. To copy a licensed file, your portable device may require a hardware serial number. The content provider decides the rights for a file; not all files will play after you copy them to a portable device.

When an item is copied to a portable device, the Status column in the Items to Copy pane displays the following information for each item:

You can resize the Items to Copy and Items on Device panes by dragging the split bar that is between them. You can also resize any column in either pane by selecting the separator between the columns, and then dragging it.

If a problem occurs during copying, right-click the message in the Status column to view more details. While files are being copied to your portable device, you can use the Player to do other things.

The Player only supports portable devices that have a Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface. To find portable devices that are compatible with the Player, see the WindowsMedia.com Web site.
