Links

A link is a pointer in one part of a website that transports you to another part of the same website or even to another website entirely. Links are technically called hyperlinks, the terms are identical and interchangeable. Both Image Objects and Text can be designated as a link. To find specific help on these areas go to the images or text sections respectively. This section deals with the options that will be displayed once you have designated an image object, a region of an image object or selection of text as a link. You have four different linking options:

LINK TO NEW PAGE

This option will allow you to designate a link to another page within your document. After selecting Link to new page you will be presented with a window prompting you to select a page from within your document. Select a page and your link will be complete.

LINK TO REMOTE URL

This option allows you to link to an existing page of a website other than the one you are currently working on. A URL is a Universal Resource Locater which is in essence a fancy term for website address. You are probably familiar with URL's already, the URL for the Splash! Home page is:
    eg: http://www.gosplash.com/index.html
It is important that you enter the URL in full being carefull to include the colons and so on where neccessary. Bear in mind that URLs are case sensitive.

LINK WITHIN THIS PAGE

Links do not necessarily mean leaving the current page of your website. If you have a long web page and would like to make it easier for people to get around you may wish to link within a page. Often a top link is used at the bottom of a long article, which transports the visitor back to the start of the page. To do this you must select a previously placed Anchor from the list of options.
    Anchor

Where is this Option? INSERT => ANCHOR
An anchor can be placed anywhere on your page and whilst it is visible within the splash environment it will not be visible to those who visit your website or when you preview it. When you select Anchor you will be prompted for an anchor name. You can use the Splash! default names, but they are not very descriptive. It may become difficult at a latter stage to distinguish between them if you use more than one anchor on the same page. Two anchors can not have the same name on the same page. You can not link to an anchor on another page, only those anchors on the same page as the link are accessible.

E-MAIL SOMEONE

An e-mail link is commonly used to allow visitors to e-mail you. You do this by entering your e-mail address or the address of the person you wish to receive the mail into the field when prompted. When the visitor clicks on the link their mail program will open up a new message window with the designated email address already placed in the correct field. This automates the process for the visitors to your site and makes it easier for them to contact you. You may decide to have more than one email link. You may wish to have comments by your visitors on different topics sent to different people, there is no limit to the number of e-mail links you can use.

VISITED LINKS

If you have previously visited a particular link, then the link can be displayed with a different color. This option can be set within Splash! (see the Adjusting Colors section).

ACTIVE LINKS

The color of an active link (the links as you are clicking on it) can be set within Splash! (see the Adjusting Colors section).
