As a matter of principle, I suppose I approve: now that you are making Executor available to the DOS world, you can no longer make the cozy assumption that none of your users are pond scum. It rankles that we users (as a group) can no longer be trusted, but I would rather swallow this unpalatable truth than see you get ripped off. As a practical matter, this is going to be a pain in the neck for at least a few of your old NeXTstep customers---those like me who haven't yet gotten around to buying CD-ROM drives. (Yes, I realize that 1x drives now cost less than an Executor license, but so does a good Japanese meal, and I haven't splurged on one of those lately, either.) Would it be possible, say two weeks _after_ the chaos of shipping the 2.0 CD subsides, for me and anyone else in the same boat to receive email (or "nymous FTP") copies over the net? I don't want to hold up the works with a special request, but it may be months before I can get access to a net-connected CD-ROM, and so even if I have to wait weeks for someone at ARDI to have a few spare minutes, it still may be my best option. , o O O O __o ....... +----------------------------+ __ ___ C E C I `\<, _|_ | Joshua W. Executor stores its files in the official AppleDouble format, which is slightly different (and worse) than the netatalk representation. Fortunately, the file layouts are the same. They just have different names. If memory serves, you need to: 1) Prepend a "%" character to the filenames of all files in the .AppleDouble directory and then move them up a directory. 2) Replace each ":HH" sequence in any filenames with "%HH" (where HH is two hexadecimal digits) with %HH. I think that's all, but I haven't personally used netatalk so I might be forgetting something. -Mat From owner-paper Sun Feb 11 14:31:04 1996 Return-Path: <owner-paper> Received: by ftp.ardi.com (Smail3.1.29.1 #3) id m0tljMK-0007q2a; Sun, 11 Feb 96 14:31 MST Sender: owner-paper Received: from gwar.ardi.com by ftp.ardi.com with bsmtp (Smail3.1.29.1 #3) id m0tljLl-0007q1C; Sun, 11 Feb 96 14:30 MST Received: by gwar.ardi.com (Smail3.1.29.1 #3) id m0tljGg-000GXNC; Sun, 11 Feb 96 14:25 MST Message-Id: <m0tljGg-000GXNC@gwar.ardi.com> Date: Sun, 11 Feb 96 14:25 MST From: mat@ardi.com (Mat Hostetter) To: Steve Duhaime <smd3@ix.netcom.com> Cc: executor@ardi.com Subject: Re: screen refresh Newsgroups: comp.emulators.mac.executor In-Reply-To: <311D2407.39F0@ix.netcom.com> References: <311D2407.39F0@ix.netcom.com> Sender: owner-paper@ardi.com Precedence: bulk >>>>> "Steve" == Steve Duhaime <smd3@ix.netcom.com> writes: Steve> With the help of a kind person I figured out how to change Steve> screen resolution, can I change the refresh rate? No, Executor isn't able to do that. VESA's VBE video driver spec provides no way to adjust monitor refresh rates, and (I think) specifies that the video driver is responsible for choosing a good refresh rate. I believe the ability to programmatically set refresh rates was to be specified in a different VESA driver standard, but I'm not sure if that standard has been released yet. -Mat From owner-paper Sun Feb 11 19:13:56 1996 Return-Path: <owner-paper> Received: by ftp.ardi.com (Smail3.1.29.1 #3) id m0tlnm3-0007q3a; Sun, 11 Feb 96 19:13 MST Sender: owner-paper Received: from ardi.com by ftp.ardi.com (Smail3.1.29.1 #3) id m0tlnlV-0007q1n; Sun, 11 Feb 96 19:13 MST Path: sloth.swcp.com!tesuque.cs.sandia.gov!ferrari.mst6.lanl.gov!newshost.lanl.gov!ncar!elroy.jpl.nasa.gov!swrinde!howland.reston.ans.net!ix.netcom.com!netnews From: Steve Duhaime <smd3@ix.netcom.com> Newsgroups: comp.emulators.mac.executor Subject: QUESTIONS Date: Sat, 10 Feb 1996 08:44:18 -0500 Organization: Netcom Lines: 15 Message-ID: <311CA132.5A9E@ix.netcom.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: ix-man-nh1-03.ix.netcom.com Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-NETCOM-Date: Sat Feb 10 5:48:44 AM PST 1996 X-Mailer: Mozilla 2.0GoldB1 (Win95; I) To: executor@ardi.com X-MailNews-Gateway: From newsgroup comp.emulators.mac.executor Sender: owner-paper@ardi.com Precedence: bulk I would like to know is there any way to get my DOS version of executor to switch to 1024x768 resolution? is there any way to get over 256 colors?
