- Choosing Mechs:
-
- At the beginning of the game, and at certain other times, you will be able to
- selcet some mechs for the Mechwarriors at your command. The 'Mech selection
- screen shows what mechs are available.
-
- Definitions;
-
- LNG Long Range Fire Power
- MED Medium Range Fire Power
- CLS Close Range Fire Power
- SPD Speed (followed by 'J' if unit has Jump Jets)
-
- In the upper right hand corner of the screen you will see the following
- information about the selected 'mech;
- -Weapons Carried
- -Amount of Armor
- -Level of Heat produced in one round of MAX weapons useage
-
-
- Basics of Command
-
- When you are engaged in battle, the screen turns into that battlefield.
- However, at the left hand side of the screen there is a series or badges that
- represent all of the units engaged in battle. The top four badges represent
- the four units of your lance. The fifth badge is the first lance as a whole.
- The sixth and seventh represent the second and third lances at you command (if
- they are present).
-
- Pressing the appropriate function key (F1-F7) takes you to that 'mech on the
- battlefield. A flashing Highlight will follow that mech as it moves along.
- The unit's symbol on the left of the screen will also be highlighted. The
- badges have a second function; their background colours will change according
- to their current situation;
-
- GREEN means that the unit can see no enemies
- YELLOW means that an Enemy has been spotted
- RED means that the unit has 50% (or less) of it's armour left
-
- The badge beneath your third lance represents the Enemy. In early scenarios
- it is a Kurita emblem. The F9 key will scroll though sighted enemies. The
- F10 key will send you to a Drop SHip menu (if you have a dropship). This icon
- will only appear after the year 3052.
-
- Information Bar
-
- The Information bar at the bottom of the screen displays the selected unit,
- time scale and timer. If the letters "CU" appear before the name of the
- unit, it signifies that it is the Commanding Unit (usually yours). After the
- type of unit, the % of armor remaining is listed, followed by a heat scale.
- Then the time scale is displayed (1-8), and lastly the timer.
-
- Command Box
-
- Once a unit has been highlighted and selected, the command box will appear.
- The command/status box has the following functions;
- Provides information on:
- -'Mech type
- -Pilot's name and experience
- -Pilot's lance
- And gives the Status of:
- -LNG Long range firepower \ None, Light, Moderate, Heavy,
- -MED Medium range firepower } Brutal, Devastating, Incredible.
- -CLS Close range firepower /
-
- -ARM Armor type (light, medium, heavy, massive) and % remaining
-
- -SPD Speed (none, slow, average, fast, very fast) and "j" for jumpjets
-
- -HEAT Heat (none, warm, moderate, hot, dangerous, extreme, shutdown)
-
- NOTE: if a weapons category (LNG, MED, CLS) changes, that could be due to two
- factors; either you have lost a weapon due to damage, or you have run out of
- Ammo. A weapon system that is GREY will signify that is no longer opperable.
- Also, is the SPD is GREY, that means that you can no longer move. (leg damage)
-
- Unit Commands;
-
- Move-
- Selecting this option lets you plot out a path for your unit to follow.
- When you reach a point that you want to change directions, just press the
- select button once, and then continue highlighting the movement. You can only
- do a MAX of 4 direction changes in one turn.
-
- Speed-
- Walking: Standard speed. Slow heat buildup
- Running: Top speed. Fast heat buildup. Ability to hit targets becomes
- harder.
- Stop: Mech stops movement
-
- Target-
- Targets are automaticly selected. However, if you want a certain unit to
- fire on a specific target or enemy, use this command.
-
- Orders-
- Fire At No One: The unit will fire at No One.
- Fire Defensively: The unit will fire at any target that presents
- itself while carrying out it's movement orders.
- Fire At Will: Will fire at anything, carrying out movement only if no
- targets are in sight. The unit will try to maintain
- Optimum firing ranges, often maneuvering around the
- enemy.
-
- OverBurn-
- Will cause a 'Mech to go one heat level over the saftey level. Excess
- heat will cause a 'mech to shutdown.
-
- The Enemy-
- When viewing your emenies stats, they will appear in the same format as
- your own. However, the damage will only be shown to the clostes 10
- percentile. (ie 10%, 20%, etc...)
-
- Elements of Command;
-
- Map Co-ordinates-
- To view a specific co-ordinate just use the move or target funtion to
- find that specific square.
-
- Range-
- Each square is equal to 30 meters. The ranges are:
- Close 0 to 90 meters (1-3 squares)
- Medium 91 to 300 meters (4-10 squares)
- Long 301 to 600 meters (11-20 squares)
-
- Line of Sight-
- The Line of Sight defines what targets your 'mech can see. L.O.S. is
- infinate, unless it is obstructed by an object (like a clump of trees, hills,
- buldings, etc...) After an emeny is spotted, it is still possible to break
- the line of sight. If he does this, but is still within sensor range (600
- meters), a "phantom" icon will replace this unit (usually a Kurita symbol).
- You cannot fire at an unseen unit.
-
- Heat-
- Moving and firing will generate heat. A high rating on the heat scale
- can lead to things like shutdowns, ammo explosions, etc... A pilots
- experience level will determine how high he will let his mech heat up. A
- green pilot may tend to let his mech overheat more, while a veteran would keep
- better track of this. The overburn command will let this heat go up one level
- higher than the person would normally let it. Heat will dissipate over time,
- and will dissipate twice as fast if the mech is in water.
-
- Terrain-
- Open plains/Roads
- Light woods
- Heavy forests
- Rocks/Boulders
- Mountains
- Water
- Buldings/Structures
-
- Open Plains/Roads-
- Mechs and vehicles can move at full speed can move fastest through this
- terrain. The L.O.S. in unnafected by this terrain.
-
- Light Woods/Heavy Forests-
- Mechs and vechicles move slower in wooded areas. The denser the woods,
- the slower the movement. Mechs equiped with jump jets can travel through
- wooded hexes with no detriment to their movement rates.
- Forests will block the LOS You will be unable to see an enemy is there
- are 3 or more light wooded hexes between you and he. Heavy woods only take
- two to block the linbe of sight.
- You can start a fire in a wooded hex by TARGETing the hex. The fire may
- spred to other nearby hexes, depending on the wind conditions.
-
- Rock/Boulders-
- Will act the same as woods as far as movement and LOS are concerned.
-
- Mountains-
- Mountains will completely block everything. LOS will be terminated, and
- no movement is allowed through or over these hexes.
-
- Water-
- Mechs movement is slowed by water. Units with jump jets will just skim
- over the water with no reduction to their movement. LOS in unnafected by
- water.
-
- Buildings/Structures-
- Buildings act the same way as mountains in respect to blocking LOS and
- movement rates. However, by TARGETing a building, you can reduce it to
- rubble, and travel through it without any problem.
-
- Messages;
- During the course of battle, you will be sent messages by those under
- your command. A MSG light will blink under the action screen when this
- happens. Red messages are more urgent than blue ones. To read the message,
- just press the "M" key and the message will pop up.
-
- Drop Ship Commands:
-
- You will not get the controll of a Drop Ship untill the year 3052. Use the
- F10 key to call up the Drop Ship menu.
-
- Intelligence-
- This option lets you check the formations, locations, speed and headings
- of yours and (spotted) enemy lances. Units out of the LOS are listed as UKNW
- (unknowm) and destroyed lances are listed as DEAD.
-
- Shell Co-ordinates-
- If artillery is available to you, you can shell a specific co-ordinate
- with this command. The explosions will occur within that hex and possible
- others surrounding it. All units (including your own) can be damaged by
- shelling.
-
- Rollin Barage-
- Similar to Shelling, this command lets you fire a barrage of artillery
- down a speciic path.
-
- Call Strafing-
- If you have air supperiority over the area, you may call in AeroSpace
- fighters to straf. Center in on the co-ordinate that you want straffed, the
- fighter will then straf that area in a sraight line across the ENTIRE map.
- Anyone caught in this area will be damaged.
-
- View Sattilite Map-
- When an uplink is available, you can see an overview of the entire area
- that oyu are fighing in. All units on the field are represented with coloured
- dots. White dots are yours, and red or blue are the enemy.
-
-
- Well, I hope these are helpful. If you have any questions or want some more
- specific help, e-mail me at Einsteins Emporium or Digital Underground. Have
- fun!!!
