  1. Paste Command Help Information     *
  2.  
  3. The Paste command is used to overlay
  4. a range of contours' pen numbers
  5. with the pattern in the holding
  6. register.
  7.  
  8. The Paste command is intended to be
  9. used in conjunction with the Cut and
  10. Copy commands.  These commands can
  11. be used to create complex repeating
  12. patterns in the pens of a project's
  13. contours.
  14.  
  15. Perform these steps to use the Paste
  16. command:
  17.  
  18.   1. Click contour "A"'s pen, if
  19.      necessary, to set the current
  20.      contour.
  21.  
  22.   2. Click the Paste command gadget.
  23.  
  24.   3. Click contour "B"'s pen.
  25.  
  26. The pen numbers from contour "A"
  27. through contour "B" are overlayed
  28. with the pattern in the holding
  29. register.
  30.  
  31. If the number of contours between
  32. contour "A" and contour "B" is
  33. shorter than the pattern in the
  34. holding register, then only part of
  35. the pattern in the holding register
  36. is used.
  37.  
  38. If the number of contours between
  39. contour "A" and contour "B" is
  40. longer than the pattern in the
  41. holding register, then the pattern
  42. repeats as many times as necessary
  43. to fill the distance from "A" to
  44. "B".
  45.  
  46. One thing to note is that it is easy
  47. to create a mirror image of a pen
  48. pattern with diligent use of the
  49. Copy and Paste commands.  Here is an
  50. example of how to create a mirrored
  51. pattern.

  53.   1. Click contour 15's pen to make
  54.      contour 15 the current contour.
  55.  
  56.   2. Click the Copy command gadget,
  57.      and then click contour 0's pen.
  58.  
  59.   3. Again click contour 15's pen to
  60.      make contour 15 the current
  61.      contour.
  62.  
  63.   4. Click the Paste command gadget,
  64.      and then click contour 30's
  65.      pen.
  66.  
  67. This sequence of events should
  68. create a mirrored image of contour
  69. 15 to 0's pens in contours 15 to 30
  70. pen's.

  72. Many of the preset Mandelbrot and
  73. Julia pictures built into this
  74. program were created using
  75. repeating mirrored patterns.
  76.  
  77. There is another gadget in the
  78. Contour Palette, that is quite
  79. useful when pasting, called the Mod
  80. gadget.  The Mod gadget is a numeric
  81. string gadget that effects the
  82. spacing of pens pasted from the
  83. holding register.

  85. If the Mod gadget is one, then every
  86. pen in a range of pens is affected
  87. when doing a Paste.  If the Mod
  88. gadget is two, then every other pen
  89. in a range of pens is affected  when
  90. doing a Paste.

  92. When used properly, the Mod gadget,
  93. in conjunction with the Paste
  94. command, can create some very nice
  95. effects.
  96.  
  97. The preset named "Sea Horse" is a
  98. nice example of odd pens are green,
  99. and even pens are blue.  The
  100. even/odd effect was created using
  101. the Mod gadget (with a Mod of two.)
  102.  
  103. The Mod gadget also affects the Cut
  104. and Copy commands, but the utility
  105. there is much lower.
