- Paste Command Help Information *
-
- The Paste command is used to overlay
- a range of contours' pen numbers
- with the pattern in the holding
- register.
-
- The Paste command is intended to be
- used in conjunction with the Cut and
- Copy commands. These commands can
- be used to create complex repeating
- patterns in the pens of a project's
- contours.
-
- Perform these steps to use the Paste
- command:
-
- 1. Click contour "A"'s pen, if
- necessary, to set the current
- contour.
-
- 2. Click the Paste command gadget.
-
- 3. Click contour "B"'s pen.
-
- The pen numbers from contour "A"
- through contour "B" are overlayed
- with the pattern in the holding
- register.
-
- If the number of contours between
- contour "A" and contour "B" is
- shorter than the pattern in the
- holding register, then only part of
- the pattern in the holding register
- is used.
-
- If the number of contours between
- contour "A" and contour "B" is
- longer than the pattern in the
- holding register, then the pattern
- repeats as many times as necessary
- to fill the distance from "A" to
- "B".
-
- One thing to note is that it is easy
- to create a mirror image of a pen
- pattern with diligent use of the
- Copy and Paste commands. Here is an
- example of how to create a mirrored
- pattern.
-
- 1. Click contour 15's pen to make
- contour 15 the current contour.
-
- 2. Click the Copy command gadget,
- and then click contour 0's pen.
-
- 3. Again click contour 15's pen to
- make contour 15 the current
- contour.
-
- 4. Click the Paste command gadget,
- and then click contour 30's
- pen.
-
- This sequence of events should
- create a mirrored image of contour
- 15 to 0's pens in contours 15 to 30
- pen's.
-
- Many of the preset Mandelbrot and
- Julia pictures built into this
- program were created using
- repeating mirrored patterns.
-
- There is another gadget in the
- Contour Palette, that is quite
- useful when pasting, called the Mod
- gadget. The Mod gadget is a numeric
- string gadget that effects the
- spacing of pens pasted from the
- holding register.
-
- If the Mod gadget is one, then every
- pen in a range of pens is affected
- when doing a Paste. If the Mod
- gadget is two, then every other pen
- in a range of pens is affected when
- doing a Paste.
-
- When used properly, the Mod gadget,
- in conjunction with the Paste
- command, can create some very nice
- effects.
-
- The preset named "Sea Horse" is a
- nice example of odd pens are green,
- and even pens are blue. The
- even/odd effect was created using
- the Mod gadget (with a Mod of two.)
-
- The Mod gadget also affects the Cut
- and Copy commands, but the utility
- there is much lower.
