Katherine Moore was born in 1947 in San Luis Obispo, California. She studied at University of California, Irvine, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Medieval History, and at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Her current practice involves installation art, screen print work, and painting.
Scope and content
The collection consists of several items assembled by the artist related to hiking on the Continental Divide, 5,000 km from Canada to Mexico, June 15 to November 8, 1996, including one pair of used hiking boots, an interview by Vicki Gabereau with the artist concerning her hike from Canada to Mexico, two copies of letters to the artist's friend, more scary tales from the trail, one warning note about bears from another long distance hiker, was found in a ziploc bag pinned to tree. two maps used for navigating on unmarked trails and cross country, a copy of a newspaper article from "The Province" about the artist's journey, an article from "The North Shore News," an article from "Common Ground," and one list of mail drops and resupply stations for twenty-six boxes of food that was sent to the artist periodically by a friend. Artwork was sent to these stations to be worked on and re-mailed ahead.
