Josh Mora joined the Empire Sports Network staff in early 1998 to launch the weekend edition of the “Empire Sports Report.” He has since become the anchor for the weeknight edition of the show. Mora was no stranger to Western New York television audiences though, having arrived at Empire Sports after a brief stint with WGRZ-TV in Buffalo. Mora occupied the role of anchor/reporter for the NBC affiliate for two years prior to joining Empire Sports Network.
Mora has been one of the more versatile members of the Empire Sports Network staff, from interviewing professional athletes and coaches during the Stanley Cup Finals, to debating controversial issues in high school athletics. Mora also took to the road with the Syracuse Orangemen filing live reports and interviewing guests throughout the week preceding the 1999 Fed Ex Orange Bowl. Before moving to his current position of weeknight anchor of the “Empire Sports Report”, Mora hosted “Inside the Orange,” which debuted in late August of 1999.
He was recently nominated for a New York State Emmy Award for his work in Outstanding Sports News Coverage. Mora’s heart-warming story of Elmira Notre Dame High School star Joel Stephens’ battle with cancer was noticed statewide as a major contribution to the network. He has won the praise of his peers and critics as one of the most talented writers and reporters in Western New York. Mora has used his knowledge of sports and excellence in journalism to compliment the regional sports network’s on-air team.
Mora came to Buffalo from Elmira, New York, where he served as sports anchor/reporter at WETM-TV for two years, covering the Southern Tier’s major sports events for the dominant NBC affiliate. Prior to arriving in the “Empire State,” Mora worked as a sports reporter/producer at WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida, and at radio stations in Lake Worth, Florida and in Amherst, Massachusetts.
Josh is a cum laude graduate of Amherst College, where he was an English major, and played center for the Lord Jeffs hockey team which won the ECAC North-South championship in his senior year. He is an active sports enthusiast who enjoys golf and baseball, as well as continuing his hockey endeavors.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Mora and his wife, Allison, now reside in Amherst, New York and their daughter, Charlotte.
