  1. Central Point Software is now shipping Central Point Anti-Virus 1.2, an
  2. update which increases protection by detecting and cleaning more than 200
  3. new viruses. Other new features include enhanced protection against
  4. stealth viruses, a customizable install option and blind operation from
  5. the command line. Among the more than 1,000 viruses that the program now
  6. finds and eliminates are Dir2, SVC V6 and Maltese Amoeba.

  8. According to a recent report released by Dataquest, Inc., the level of
  9. virus encounters increased exponentially between 1990 and 1991. "This
  10. increased threat of infection leads naturally to an increased need for
  11. protection," said Tori Case, Central Point Anti-Virus product manager.
  12. "Central Point Anti-Virus 1.2 not only ensures safety against even the
  13. most complex stealth viruses, but with the new Custom Install option, the
  14. program can be easily implemented across an entire organization making it
  15. the best virus protection available for corporations."

  17. Increased Protection Against Unknown Stealth Viruses

  19. Central Point Anti-Virus 1.2 now detects both known and unknown stealth
  20. viruses in memory. Stealth viruses are especially dangerous because they
  21. conceal their presence from both users and virus detection software by
  22. hiding file size changes or failing to update the DOS date stamp. Central
  23. Point Anti-Virus uses a special low-level technology to bypass these and
  24. other stealth techniques.

  26. New Install and Command Line Options Automate Operation

  28. Two new features in Central Point Anti-Virus 1.2 simplify installation. The
  29. Custom Install option allows system administrators to create customized
  30. configurations of the program for automatic installation by end users,
  31. either via diskette or across a network. In addition, the Update option
  32. allows users to install a new version of Central Point Anti-Virus without
  33. reconfiguring the previous version's program options.

  35. Central Point Anti-Virus 1.2 now gives the option of running from the DOS
  36. command line without displaying the program's user interface. This allows
  37. the program to run transparently to the end user. With this option the
  38. program can be configured to display or hide the file names as they are
  39. scanned. Additionally, a customizable text message may be displayed while
  40. the program is scanning to inform the user of the scan status.

  44. Central Point Anti-Virus 1.2 has a suggested retail price of $129 and is
  45. available from major software distributors and resellers in North America.
  46. The cost of a single update is $20. An optional subscription plan provides
  47. customers four consecutive releases for $59. Customers in the U.S. and
