  24. quality refractors, it was (maybe still is) the practice to leave the last
  25. surface uncoated, and tweak the correction by refiguring the last surface
  26. after the other three were coated.

  34. I think you missed the part about the corrector being covered with sleeks.
  35. This would indeed be expected to degrade the resolution.

  37. Moral of the story:
  38. Don't clean your optics until they are absolutely filthy.  Less crudely put,
  39. an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure--keep your optics from get-
  40. ting dirty as much as possible so that you very seldom need to clean them.
