- I'm joining a historical enactment society affiliated with the Forces of
- Montcalm and Wolfe, and, of course, part of my accoutrements will eventually
- include either a Model 2 Bess (with a barrel cut down to 40 inches or so--my
- unit was known to do that) or a French hunting rifle appropriate to the period
- 1760 or so (my unit was also documented as having carried off a few French
- hunting pieces after a raid).
-
- Anyway, my problem is that reliable reproductions can be expensive. The best
- price I've seen so far is a Model 2 Bess kit from Italy which runs around $400
- US. Is this typical or can such prices be improved? Also, is there a source
- for reproduction French hunting pieces of the period?
