Essentially. The most efficient ways to do it vary somewhat,
but the processes are very similar in most respects.
In theory, they are entirely similar, in that one (the DAC)
constitutes the decoder for the other (ADC).

Not really. I have work to do, and Kurt will undoubtedly just
lie about what I said anyhow. Heck, now he's telling us all
what "jj says". What "jj says" is on record with a bunch of
standards committees, both US and international, a few books,
a bunch of technical papers, and constantly continues to
annoy the SNR weenies.
Still, good ol' Kurt feels the need to lie about it.
