  14. Our local public school system is running out of room given our
  15. current configuration:

  17. 4 K-5  schools  - two schools over capacity
  18. 1 K-2  school   - 90% full
  19. 1 3-5  school   - 60% full
  20. 1 6-8  school   - 1200 with a 1000 capacity
  21. 1 9-12 school   - 1400 with a 2000+ capacity
  22.  
  23. Given the current and next five years of distribution of students across
  24. the various grades, one of the few plans that we've cooked up that has any
  25. chance of working is:

  27. 5 K-4  schools
  28. 2 4-7  schools
  29. 1 8-12 school
  30.  
  31. The two points of concern are the 4-7 schools and moving the 8th grade
  32. to the high school. The total student population is around 5500.
  33.  
  34. I'd like to touch base with any systems that have a 4-7 school to discover
  35. what type of educational philospohies might have been applied to this
  36. particular age grouping, along with any problems, opportunities, etc.

  38. If anyone knows of systems like this, please let me know.

  40. I'd also like to hear from people with actual first-hand experience
  41. (either as a parent, teacher, or administrator), with a K-4 school
  42. or with an 8-12 high school. I'm much less interested in the theoretical
  43. problems or opportunities. We've already done a wonderful job of thinking
  44. of the possible problems :) , now we need some actual data.
