- "Compassion fare's" are discounts off of the full coach "Hello! I'm
- here! I'd like a ticket on your next flight to Peoria!" fare.
-
- It sounds like they issued a *new* ticket at the compassion fare and
- credited your friend with the cost of the unused ticket and charged
- $25 for that.
-
- When the airlines "simplified" the fare structure last year they
- eliminated the compassion fares, but they have slowly been reinstituting
- them.

- Call Continental and ask for the office of the President. Be
- persistent. They will either give you a telephone number or an
- address. That is the address to write to or call.
-
- >4. Is there a regulation against this kind of "price gouging"?
-
- As noted above, this is not price gouging (at least as far as the
- airline is concerned). They will tell you they were giving you a
- discount! They key thing to note is that you had a ticket on the same
- routing the next day.
