  14. Announcing the January meeting of the BBLISA, a New England area
  15. systems administration forum.  Our meetings are free, and anyone
  16. interested is welcome to come.  This month's meeting is on January 27,
  17. at M.I.T. in Cambridge, MA.  See below for details.

  19. BBLISA is an acronym for Back Bay Area Large Installation System
  20. Adminstrators.  However, our membership comes from all over New
  21. England, and you don't have to be a large installation, or even a
  22. system administrator, to come.  All you have to be is interested.  We
  23. are an all volunteer organization, and have no dues or any other fees.

  25. The BBLISA meets on the last Wednesday of each month.  Our meetings
  26. are 2 hours.  The first our we have a speaker on some topic of
  27. interest to system administrators, and the second hour is devoted to
  28. questions.  When there are no more questions, anyone is free to raise
  29. any topic they'd like.

  31. We have a mailing list set up, called bblisa@inset.com.  To join the
  32. list, please send mail to bblisa-request@inset.com.  If you have any
  33. questions regarding the BBLISA, you can direct them to
  34. bblisa-admin@inset.com.

  36. Our topic for this month is the GNU Hurd, and Michael Bushnell from the
  37. Free Software Foundation will be our speaker.

  48.              "The GNU Hurd"
  49.  
  50. Michael's talk will be about the GNU Hurd, the operating system
  51. being written by the Free Software Foundation.  The GNU Hurd attempts
  52. to restrict the functionality of the non-replaceable kernel to as
  53. small a minimum as possible.  Virtually all of the functionality users
  54. interact with is provided by the system libraries instead, allowing
  55. both faster execution and easier replacement by individual users to
  56. suit their individual needs.

  58. For anyone interested in taking a more active role in the running of
  59. the BBLISA, there will be a short meeting, starting at 6:30, before
  60. the regular meeting begins.
