- Fred,
-
- There are several things I think you should do. First, from your
- example budget, I see that you don't get any royalty for the fish
- library file descriptions that nearly all Amiga magazines print. I
- suppose you own a compilation copyright of the library as such, so for
- all your editing work, I think you should at least be paid a decent
- royalty from every magazine that spends editorial space on fish disk
- contents. Squeeze them, they make direct monetary profit of your
- compilation work. If you get enough money, you might even be able to
- forward part of that to each contributor to the library. Although it
- would be a small sum of money, it would at least cover the
- contributors own mailing costs.
-
- Second, there are lots of companies in Europe that deal in fish disks.
- Each month, they spend a large amount of money in advertising your
- disks. I've meant to measure how many millimeters of advertising
- space they use each month, since from the advertising cost one can
- estimate the size of the fish disk market. There are many Amiga
- magazines in europe, and the length of the space dedicated to the fish
- library in all ads should be added up to figure out a rough
- advertising investment these companies make each month.
- I think you should forbid these companies to duplicate your disks for
- a period of two months after release, UNLESS they've paid a fee
- proportional to the size of their fish disk business. That should be
- enough to force them, as competition will drive them to all do it as
- soon as one company does it. Again, since this market seems to be very
- big, it probably turns out you'll get money enough to forward to the
- contributors of your library as well.
-
- Best whishes,
-
