  23. Purpose of the Conference:
  24. -------------------------
  25. Revolutionary new ideas in scientific computation are strongly
  26. influencing mathematical modelling.  Many numerical algorithms with
  27. automatic result verification, providing full control over the effects
  28. of computational errors and uncertainties in the input data are
  29. developed.  Software and hardware tools and programming languages
  30. supporting the implementation of such algorithms are developed.  In
  31. the near future suitable problem solving environments with result
  32. verification will be available for the most common mathematical
  33. problems.  The use of such tools permits the reduction of global
  34. computational error below given bounds, and as a consequence, a
  35. mathematically clear evaluation of the effects of an imperfect
  36. mathematical model.  It is well-known that a main task of mathematical
  37. modelling is to study the deficiencies and the scope of validity of a
  38. particular mathematical model, which is very difficult in a situation
  39. when the computational errors are not under control.
  40.  
  41. At present there are two groups of specialists who need each others
  42. knowledge.  On one side, there are numerical analysts designing
  43. methods with automatic result verification who need good examples of
  44. particular practical applications.  On the other side, there are
  45. highly specialized application scientist who have had bad experiences
  46. with traditional numerical methods and who do not know, or know very
  47. little of the new methodology for scientific computation.  The purpose
  48. of the Conference is to bring together these two diverse groups of
  49. specialists and thus to make available the new methodology for
  50. scientific computation and the new software tools to the scientific
  51. community.

  56. Numerical methods and applications in biology, biotechnology, ecology,
  57. physics, engineering, manufacturing and production systems;
  58. SC-programming languages, program packages and problem solving
  59. environments supporting scientific computations; mathematical models,
  60. involving interval-valued input data; enclosure methods involving
  61. automatic result verification applied to particular modelling
  62. situations; the role of interval methods and computer arithmetic in
  63. theorem proving, computational geometry etc.;

  65. The official language of MMSC-93 is English.

  69. Three copies of a contributed paper, nominally four pages long, in
  70. camera ready standard A4 format are to be submitted by April 1, 1993.
  71. The contributions should be prepared as an ASCII file preferably with
  72. the macropackage LaTeX (article style, 12pt) and the corresponding
  73. file should be submitted by e-mail (or on a diskette) as well as in
  74. printed form to some of the contact persons.

  76. High quality tutorial lecturs will be given on fundamental topics
  77. related to scientific computation.

  89. The conference will take place in the Rest Home of the Technical
  90. University - Sofia in Sozopol, September 14-17, 1993.  Sozopol is the
  91. most beautiful and romantic ancient town on southern part of the
  92. Bulgarian Black Sea coast.  It is located 30 km South from the town of
  93. Bourgas, which is an international airport.  In September the weather
  94. should be fine with water temperatures above 20 C.
