- I suppose the thing to do here is try and decide just what is it whose life
- is being extended: the physical body, or something incoporeal. I've read
- some stories about Chinese immortals who appear to have done a bit of both
- (Secret of the Golden Flower and all that). As to what the westerns thought,
- that's a bit more muddled. Any more if I think of alchemy, I think of the
