  24. Nice words, thanks :-)   In other posts, Teri suggested the wisdom of 
  25. communicating one's expectations beforehand, to avoid some of
  26. these misunderstandings.  I've never asked somebody to pay on
  27. a *first* date, though...at the risk of being somewhat devious, I do
  28. find it useful to learn what their default expectations are in
  29. real time, without any prompting from me.  I realize that's not a very
  30. fair-and-open way to do things, having expectations (of a minority
  31. view, here in Idaho) but not saying anything.  For some reason,
  32. "hey wanna get together for lunch Tuesday" comes out of my mouth
  33. instead of the more informative "you strike me as an interesting 
  34. person and I'd like to get to know you better...wanna split a lunch
  35. tab on Tuesday".  I'm usually not a completely inarticulate nervous
  36. wreck just because I'm around an interesting woman, so my guess is
  37. that there's some fear of rejection on my part; e.g., not willing to
  38. ask for anything that might kill the deal.  Hmmm...
