- Probably the main reason they would never do this is that anybody standing
- around outside when the Phalanx main radar was active would get cooked.
- This might not be too bad if the poor soul were an enemy ;-), but in the
- chaos of war, there would almost certainly be a lot of friendly infantry
- wandering into the wrong areas...

- The only serious proposal I've heard about for a land-based Phalanx was for
- "High Value Site Defense", where a Phalanx on a large truck could be placed
- in a stationary position around, say, an airfield. Infantry troops wouldn't
- have to worry that the Phalanx might move into their vicinity and cook their
- rations for them.
