  28. Actually, General Dynamics (who designed and built Phalanx, but have since
  29. sold that division to Hughes Missle Systems Company) proposed a land-based
  30. version for "High Value Site Defense (HVSD)" several years ago.  I've saw
  31. several artists renditions and small-scale models of it about 2-3 years ago.
  32. The engineers working on it called it "Phalanx-on-a-truck".

  42. Dave Good (who used to work at GD's Pomona Division [where Phalanx was/is
  43. designed and built], which later merged with another GD division to become
  44. the Air Defense Systems Division, and still later was sold and became part
  45. of Hughes Missile systems company [who wants to move the work to Tucson, AZ,
  46. so I decided it was time to get out of the defense biz] -- whew!)
