  16. 'GREEN PRICING'

  18. The New York Public Service Commission is working on a "green
  19. pricing" plan that would allow consumers to choose whether to pay
  20. higher electricity bills for power from clean, renewable energy
  21. sources, according to The Energy Daily.

  23. Several other states, the article said, are considering the
  24. concept, which was developed in detail by David Moscovitz of the
  25. Regulatory Assistance Project in a study commissioned by the World
  26. Resources Institute.

  28. A number of polls and studies have shown that many consumers --
  29. perhaps as many as 40 percent or 50 percent -- are willing to pay
  30. more for power from sources that do not damage the environment,
  31. according to Moscovitz.

  33. New York is looking at a trial implementation of the concept in
  34. connection with its state energy plan, which calls for the state's
  35. utilities to install 300 MW of renewable energy generating capacity
  36. by the year 1998, the article said.
