- Pioneer CLD-M401: Multi-Play CD, CDV/LD Player
-
- Source: Camera Sound
- Cost: 469.00
- S/H: 28.00
- Ins: 9.06
- Notes: Not the cheapest place for this player, but the closest to where
- I live. I called 4pm Dec 23rd, it arrived the next day by UPS
- ground (almost as good as Next Day). The only problem is that
- they did not double box the unit, i.e. shipping label on the
- original Pioneer box.
-
- Input/Output:
- Audio: 2 sets of L/R and 1 mono (for optional RF modulator)
- 1 optical digital output (untested)
- Video: 2 RCA/direct out
- 1 S-Video (untested)
- Control: Pioneer System remote control in/out jacks and
- Pioneer CD/Cassette synchro jack
-
- Play Modes:
- CAV has forward and reverse scan, freeze frame, multi-speed slow/fast-mo,
- chapter and frame search, chapter/frame # display.
- CLV has forward and reverse scan, no freeze frame, no slow/fast-mo,
- chapter and time search, chapter/time display.
- CDV can't test, no disk available
- CD has forward and reverse scan, track and time search, no index search.
-
- Random (shuffle) play over LD chapters, over 5 CD's or, in 1 CD.
- Hi-Lite/Intro play LD (all chapters), 5 CD's (track 1 of all disks),
- 1 CD (all tracks).
-
- Changing CD's require ~15 seconds.
- Does not change sides for LD's (one-sided player).
-
- Program over chapters/track (untested yet).
- Repeat over chapters/track (untested yet).
- Unable to test TOC features for LD's.
-
- Can select Digital or Analog and Left or Right Audio.
-
- Remote Control:
- Functions:
- Holds most working commands for the unit.
- Remote Power On/Off.
- Eject act as Stop and Eject (on 2nd press).
- no Close tray button (use Play instead).
- no Hi-Lite/Intro (should be on the remote, but not).
- "Shuttle" duplicates forward and reverse scan.
- Ergonomics:
- Tolerable (but then I hack sendmail.cf sometimes :-)
- I needed 2 hours to go throught the features on the remote
- and I still haven't tried the programmed play mode.
-
- Player Unit Only:
- Demo, not very exotic
- Hi-Lite/Intro,
- ADLC (automatic digital level control) for
- compensating different recording levels in CD's.
-
- Display on Unit is adequate for player status, but can also use
- TV for display with ubiquitous blue background. Unfortunately
- with CAV LD, you can't find out time played/remained on chapters.
-
- Reliability: who knows...I am leaving it to my college-going brother
- to beat on it over the Xmas break.
-
- Opinion: I based my decision for LD player on how I used my VCR:
- mostly movies with full run through, very little special effects used.
- So I can tolerate the loss of freeze and slow/fast-mo on CLV.
- Since this was also planned to replace my old Yamaha single-CD player,
- the 5-CD player is a nice feature.
