- I think Kevin was referring to competitive ice-dancing as
- opposed to the social version. While there is really not
- a 100% clear distinction, in the situation where coaches,
- parents and skaters are making sacrifices with the intent
- of "winning", sexual complications are not desired and I
- suspect especially coaches lament losing good skaters as
- adolescence rears it's distractions.

- In the social arena, you find all kinds of combinations,
- but pairs seem to be pretty well split into two camps -
- married couples who both skate and "skating partners"
- whose relationships don't extend much past the rink doors.
- With the younger skaters you see more in the way of
- external cliques or other associations that carry over
- into skating.

- As far as the original quesiton of gay men in competitive
- or exhibition skating, what's the big surprise? Any area
- of "artistic" expression is likely to have a visible gay
- contingient...
