- #Some random questions:
-
- #How does a stripper clip work? Is it necessary?
- #What type of action/feed system needs/uses one?
-
- well, ive heard of stripper clips for use with SKS's, and these are
- analogous to a speed-loader for, say, a revolver.. you load ammo into
- the stripper clip, and then the clip is used to quickly load the gun.
- (you dont actually put the clip into the magazine and leave it
- there).. ive heard that surplus ammo can be bough on 10-rnd stripper
- clips, but i havent seen any..
-
- #How do drop-in magazines for the SKS work? Are they as good as SKSes
- #modified to take AK magazines?
-
- i bought a detachable 30-rnd mag (which actually holds 36 rounds) for
- my sks. if your gun orignally had a non-detachble mag, you need to
- pop the trigger out to remove it, then put the trigger back in, and
- then you cann use the detachable ones.. ive not seen any sks's
- modified to use AK mags altho i suspect it would be less of a pain in
- the ass than the SKS detachable mags ive seen.. (they arent the
- easiest to insert/remove)..

- #What type of 7.62 cartridge did the WWII M1 Carbine take? Is it still
- #produced? Can any current 7.62 brass be cut down if need be and loaded
- #for it? (Am I even assuming correctly that it IS 7.62?)
-
- the cartridge is called, coincidentally, .30 M1 Carbine.. :-) ammo is
- widely available, so dont worry about making brass.. the case has no
- shoulder; it looks almost straight-walled. i believe with a 110 grain
- bullet velocities would typically be around 1900 fps; i.e. not much of
- a rifle cartridge, but pretty hot for a handgun. (revolvers in this
- caliber were/are(?) produced by a few companies i believe)..
