  15. This past Saturday I purchased a Glock 17 (9x19mm para.).  Today
  16. I purchased a Tasco LaserPoint mount specifically for the Glock 17,
  17. and have a LaserPoint LP2 on order.

  19. I attached the LaserPoint mount today and then tried to chamber
  20. some ammunition.  The weapon would not chamber automatically--some
  21. force had to be applied to the back of the slide to get it to go
  22. home.  I tried 34 rounds (2 full magazines) and none of the rounds
  23. would chamber without assistance (please note that I didn't FIRE any
  24. of these rounds--just ran them through the action).

  26. The problem seemed to be ameliorated (although not eliminated) when
  27. I removed the LaserPoint mount.  After running a few magazines through
  28. the action it seemed to be chambering more or less consistently.  I
  29. thought perhaps this was just a breakin period so I attached the LaserPoint
  30. mount again and the chambering problem recurred.  Looking at the ammunition,
  31. both the brass and the bullets (FMJ) were scored more than I felt reasonable.

  33. Somehow it would seem that the LaserPoint mount is deforming the receiver
  34. and interfering with chambering in some way--though it's not clear
  35. to me that that should cause the ammunition to get banged up.  The LaserPoint
  36. mount is not a tight fit particularly, but the problem does seem to get worse
  37. as I tighten the allen screws holding the mount to the trigger guard.  I'm
  38. at a loss, because keeping these screws lose would seem to mean that the
  39. sight would be jumping all over the place, relatively speaking, from the
  40. recoil of the weapon.

  42. This is my first "modern" auto pistol--past experience being with my
  43. father's 1911 .45ACP and old .22LR Colt Woodsman--and certainly my first
  44. laser sight.  The Glock package says "Perfection," but this is far from
  45. it--The weapon ought to be able to chamber rounds without manual assistance
  46. beyond releasing the slide, and it ought to accept sight mounts made
  47. specifically for it without acting up (though the latter could be a problem
  48. with the Tasco LaserPoint mount).
