- ###2 questions: Is it any good? (AMT .45 1911s in general...)
- ###and ... Does the long slide make the gun unbalanced in any way?
- ##
- ##I used to own an AMT Hardballer. The happiest day I had with it was the
- ##day
- ##I sold it. It looked great, but it jammed constantly. I sent letters to
- ##the
- ##company asking some simple questions, and never received any replies.
- ##I
- ##would never own an AMT product again.
- #
- #Well, this is just the opposite from my experience with MY hardballer.
- #Great trigger, feeds anything (including lead semi wadcutters)
- #flawlessly. The adjustable rear sight is a little cheap, but whadda ya
- #want for the money?? It works OK for me, and the zero doesn't change,
- #so it's servicable.
- #
- #Maybe the reason Mike couldn't get any action on the letters is because
- #AMT has reorg'ed & moved a couple times, and they may not have gotten
- #his letters?? Just a speculation..........
-
- ARRRGGGGUUUU!!!! Is there ANY Colt clone company that hasn't/isn't
- going under? First I settled on a Springfield, then I was told they
- were winding down operations. Then I thought about a Real Colt, and
- was told they were Chapter 11 (or some such). Now I find out that
- AMT is doing multiple Reorgs...
-
- So who does that leave? Norinco - questionable quality?, Para Ordinance-
- which I can't find anywhere, even in my Shooters Bible, and which is
- reputed to be expensive, Auto Ordinance - also questionable quality...
-
- Sigh. I tried handling a Glock, but the grip just feels wrong to me.
- (It DID sight exactly where I pointed it on the instinctive point test.
- Every time I checked the sights, it was spot-on where I was pointing!
- It just feels funny to me. I tried handling a Ruger P9x (the .45acp)
- and never felt such a strange trigger. It goes through about 4 changes
- of pull hardness as things connect inside before it (finally!) creeps
- to a release ... it seems like a inch of trigger travel ... It also
- failed the instinctive point test. Each point felt good, but checking
- the sights showed that it was all over the place... A Sig is out of my
- price range...
-
- I know, Colt is doing a chapter, not going out of business ... and a
- reorg isn't going out of business either ... but it sure makes one
- reluctant ... and jepordizes product lines. I'd rather not buy a
- model just in time to have it discontinued...
