- According to an article in the LA Times the Aqua Caliente Indians (the
- richest tribe in the country) decided to sign an agreement with Caesar's to
- open up a casino in Palm Springs. The tribe owns a tremendous amount of
- real estate in the Palm Springs area and has held out against opening up a
- casino for various reasons including local negative attitudes. The article
- went on to describe Palm Springs current desperate economic state, and said
- that the casino would not offer accomodations. I think the idea is that
- people will come to Palm Springs spend money at local hotels, restaurants,
- etc in between trips out to the casino to gamble. Another tribe with land
- holdings just west of Palm Springs (the Moranga Tribe) has been operating
- a bingo parlor and more recently card room with increasing profits.
-
- I hope it happens soon, if succersful it could scare some casinoes in Las
- Vegas. PS is only about 150 miles from LA, while Vegas is twice that.
