- The State of Oregon had the highway repaved last year, and the
- paving company that did the work did a really poor job. I'm not
- sure if they had the asphalt mix screwed-up, but the asphalt
- (in many places) seems to have separated, with tar/oil rising
- to the surface in the form of a semi-pliable goo. Because of
- this, the road is very slippery when wet. Additionally, the
- road surface approaching traffic lights has become rather bumpy, most
- likely due to the force exerted by cars (via their tires) that brake
- for red lights. To combat both problems, the surface is "smoothed"
- by grating the roadway. Unfortunately, the problem will recur until
- someone repaves the offending sections.
-
- I sincerely hope that the State secured some sort of repayment
- from the original paving contractor for the costs of performing
- this repair work.
