  12. LOCAL ORGANIZATION NEEDS NEW MEETING PLACE

  14.  Electronic Dreams is a supportive action organization of
  15.  listeners, collectors and artists in support of "E-music."  This
  16.  is a progressive style of instrumental electronic music which is
  17.  not well-known in the United States.  Artist/groups that are part
  18.  of this genre include Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Vangelis,
  19.  Jean-Michel Jarre, Larry Fast of Synergy, Mike Garrison.  We are
  20.  working towards a recognition of the music as being it's OWN
  21.  music apart from any other genre (i.e. it's "E-music," NOT jazz
  22.  or New Age).  We have an international membership via our
  23.  quarterly newsletter known as DREAMS WORD.

  26.  Our Portland core group meetings are usually small (around 8-15
  27.  people) and are traditionally held on the second Saturday of the
  28.  month at 4 PM.  Our meeting are relaxed, casual and fun. 
  29.  Sometimes there is a potluck dinner.  The meetings are a positive
  30.  haven for anyone who has ever loved this unique music and could
  31.  never find anyone else to talk to about it.  In the midst of this
  32.  friendly atmosphere, we get a lot of tasks accomplished.  Editing
  33.  our newsletter is one.  Sorting, filing and answering of all our
  34.  international mail is another.  All of our work is done on a
  35.  volunteer basis.

  38.  Then there is the famous Electronic Dreams "Torture Test". 
  39.  That's where we do a double-blind test of all the latest albums
  40.  that have come into our PO Box in the last month.  Whoever is in
  41.  charge of the stereo that day will play each CD at random without
  42.  telling the rest of us who created the music.  After we decide
  43.  whether it passes or fails, only THEN do we learn who the artist
  44.  is.  That way we keep a certain objectivity.  We try to give
  45.  everyone an equal chance.  The albums are then mailed to our reviewers..

  47.   For the last two years, we have been meeting in a tiny apartment
  48.   living room on the near SE side.  It's been fun, but it's time to
  49.   give our apartment friend a break.

  51.  We need a new meeting place.  
  52.  The meeting place must be a reasonable driving distance from the
  53.  center of Portland, and be easily accessible by Tri-Met.  It must
  54.  be reliable, i.e. when we need it for our second-Saturday-of-the-
  55.  month meetings, the space will always be available.  Some way of
  56.  playing the music would be nice, but if absolutely necessary, we
  57.  can bring our own stereo equipment.  The place can be the
  58.  basement of somebody's house, or perhaps a back room at some
  59.  community center, or (???).  We are flexible and are open to
  60.  suggestions.

  62. Since we are a volunteer organization and thus cannot pay rent,
  63. we have something unique to offer instead.  Perhaps you have a
  64. basement or a nice back room that you need cleaned, painted or
  65. maintained.  Want it done for free?  Let US do it!  We are
  66. willing to WORK in exchange for a good meeting place.

  68.  Then every month, we will maintain that space so you don't have
  69.  to.  It's an equal exchange: you need that place to be properly
  70.  taken care of, and we need a place to make contact and get the
  71.  work done once a month.

  74.  Need references?  We can give you names and phone numbers of
  75.  people who have hosted us in the past.  We have pride in who we
  76.  are and in the work that we accomplish.  This sense of pride and
  77.  respect shall be self-evident in the care that we will give to
  78.  our new meeting place.
