- NCD terminals can use either IEN-116 or DNS for name server. Not NIS.
-
- The good part is every Sun has an IEN-116 server builtin. It is in.tnamed (note
- the "t") and is configured from /etc/inetd.conf. By default it is enabled.
- If you want to use that, make sure the NCD's are configured to use IEN116
- not DNS.
-
- Whether or not your Sun is a NIS master server, NIS slave server, or NIS client,
- or unrelated to NIS doesn't matter.
- My guess is you accidently removed something else as well when you changed
- NIS.
-
- You can also have your Sun be a DNS server for the NCD terminals. This does
- NOT imply that the sun needs to use DNS itself. Setting up a DNS server is
- a not-so-trivial task. I can post or mail how to do that if anybody is
- interested. (In January... today is the last active/sober day of the year
- for me.)
