- I am soon going to be purchasing a used IBM PC/AT, and had a
- few questions that I hope to have answered before I make the
- purchase final.
-
- The system I will be getting consists of the following parts:
-
- o IBM PC/AT w/640K RAm
- o SeaGate 20 Megabyte Hard drive
- o 5.25" 1.2 Megabyte high density Disk Drive (1)
- o 5.25" 360K Disk Drive (1)
- o IBM CGA Monitor (and card)
- o IBM AT Keyboard
-
- I am currently using a machine very similar to the one that
- I am going to hopefully be purchacing. The differences in
- the two machines are as follows:
-
- o The monitor on this one is a monochrome monitor
- o There is 512K in this computer (there will be 640K in mine).
- o It may wind up being a monochrome monitor after all ($275 for
- the whole system, not $300).
-
- All other hardware is the same. I ran Norton's SI.EXE program
- on this PC/AT and came up with the following information:
-
- Computer Name: IBM AT
- Operating System: DOS 3.10
- Built-in BIOS dated: Tuesday, January 10, 1984
- Main Processor: Intel 80286 Serial Ports: 1
- Co-Processor: None Parallel Ports: 2
- Video Display Adapter: Monochrome (MDA)
- Current Video Mode: Text, 25 x 80 Monochrome
- Available Disk Drives: 3, A: - C:
-
- DOS reports 512 K-bytes of memory:
- 47 K-bytes used by DOS and resident programs
- 465 K-bytes available for application programs
- A search for active memory finds:
- 512 K-bytes main memory (at hex 0000-8000)
- 32 K-bytes display memory (at hex B000-B800)
-
- Computing Index (CI), relative to IBM/XT: 5.9
- Disk Index (DI), relative to IBM/XT: 2.5
-
- Performance Index (PI), relative to IBM/XT: 4.7
-
- What speed does this system run at (in MHz)? Also, is $300 a
- good price for such a system? (I think so..)
-
- Are there any problems with a machine of this type? Is there
- anything I should know or watch out for as far as the hardware
- is concerned? Thanks for your help.
